If you think about the emphasis placed on exercise over eating less/better when realistically the focus should be reversed it basically says its all about commercialism.

You can exercise like a lunatic but if one runs a calorie surplus they will get bigger. Obviously exercise is important in healthy living don't get me wrong but I guarantee most fatties are fat because they don't eat properly. I exercise 5 days a week pretty intensely and occasionally get a bit chubby if I eat at a crazy surplus too long.

The irony of it is that people on Paleo diets aren't actually eating like paleolithic people probably did. Needs a new name tbh

This is true and even Paleo guru's agree. It is too late to change it however.

I like the Perfect Health Diet by Paul Jaminet. It's generally Paleo whilst pushing the benefits of more safe starches such as white rice, sweet potatoes etc.

Exactly. I was actually just making this point to a co-worker and he got a bit offended.

I cringe every time I see an article in a major newspaper that says we need to exercise more. Just a little while ago the Telegraph was saying many people need 90 minutes exercise a day. Well geez I wonder why?

Is white rice seen as safer than brown rice? I'd have thought it would be the other way around.

White rice especially the Basmati and Jasmine varieties are generally better for you than brown rice.

All rice is gluten free too.

Brown rice has more nutrient but we digest white rice better. The net gain is better with white rice.

A pity about the complete lack of taste.

It's like a black hole of taste. So bland, no taste can escape it or survive proximity to it.

Not a fan of Sushi Mis?

I stopped eating rice for a few years, now if I eat it I feel bloated. But I still like sushi as an occasional indulgence.

The white rice in sushi is soaked in sugar and rice vinegar. It's not usually made from the same white rice we eat in Australia too.

I've been on Keto (similar to Paleo) for about 2 months and dropped 15kg. I find it pretty easy to stick to because I'm never hungry due to the high fat intake. Supplemented with weight training and mountain biking.

I'm much the same. I've been around 72-74 kilos now for nearly a year after dropping from over 100kg. If I have a few too many beers one week or fall into lazy eating the weight comes back on pretty quickly, but I can lose it nearly as quickly as I gain it with responsible eating.

No amount of exercise will ever help you lose weight if you eat too much, and eat shit food. We had one heifer at the last place I worked at who used to complain she'd do 60-90 mins at the gym five days a week, but would eat McDonalds for lunch at least three days of the week and would snack all day.

Paleo works for a couple of reasons:
- By eliminating a lot of carbohydrates, which people tend to over eat. This results in a lower calorie intake (which doesn't surprise that it then means lower weight).
- It encourages a lot more fibrous vegetable intake which people tend to under eat.

However, people who eat paleo can risk missing out on some essential minerals and vitamins through avoidance of dairy, legumes, whole grains, and starches - however, a clued in individual can compensate for these deficiencies through different vegetables, etc.

I've taken some aspects of Paleo (cut out dairy, processed foods, grains etc) just to see how it impacts me physically, not so much for weight loss but general fatigue/workout recovery/sleep. It's been about 3 weeks now, my appetite is basically dead, I have no cravings at all and the one time I broke it (went out drinking after work one night) I got back on track the next day instantly. No problems, no lingering cravings or anything. Pretty stoked so far. When I start bulking I'll probably re-add rice though.

I think I'm on the anti-Paleo diet. I eat heaps of cheese, butter, milk, potatoes. I've just started eating a can of baked beans with hard cheese for lunch and it's been fantastic. I don't feel hungry in the afternoon anymore and beans are low GI with a low energy density. And the good thing is I haven't died yet!
