So every 'expert' is going to be asked to name their side for Adelaide, and we all know LU is full of experts.

What's your XI for the next Test? Who else is on the radar?

Here's mine to start the ball rolling:

Warner
Burns
Khawaja
Smith (C)
Hanscombe
Ferguson
Nevill
Mennie
Starc
Hazlewood
Lyon

Burns, Ferguson and Mennie all get at least one more Test. Nevill is on a knife edge, with either Whiteman coming in or Hanscombe taking the gloves. If Burns doesn't perform, I'd be looking at bumping Khawaja to open and Smith to 3. Middle order options of Stoinis, Patterson and Maddinson would be in the mix if that were to happen. Bird is the frontline replacement for Mennie if he goes. Behrendorff is really the only other fit paceman I'd be looking at so far. Cummins is making his way back to red ball cricket (playing Futures League recently/currently), Siddle and Pattinson are out, no one else is really calling out to be picked. As for Lyon, I seriously think he's getting a raw deal, but everyone is under scrutiny. O'Keefe and Holland both bowled well last Shield round, but are both typically defensive spinners (and Lyon can have that approach too often as well).

Time for some serious changes IMO, Burns is not a test openers arsehole and would get slaughtered at Adelaide under lights. Ferguson deserves one more chance and i'm sorry but the GOAT has to go.

Warner
Bancroft - we need someone who can bat time and he seems like the best option atm
Oozie
Smith
Ferguson
Patterson
Nevill
Starc
SOK
Haze
Bird

Warner
Burns
Khawaja
Smith
Ferguson
Head
Nevill
O'Keefe
Starc
Hazlewood
Bird

I don't think we can make mass changes because the talent and form just isn't there at Shield level, and we'd be throwing a bunch of youngsters to the wolves. Head at least has international experience and loads of talent. Bird for Mennie is a no brainer IMO, and Lyon really offers nothing.

For mine

Warner
Bancroft
Khawaja
Smith
Ferguson
Maxwell
Nevill
O'Keefe
Starc
Hazelwood
Sayers

For the people I have dropped, I've never been a huge fan of Burns and don't see a long term future in the team for him. Voges filled a role but it's time for him to move on. Mennie is unlucky to only get the one opportunity and I woudnt mind at all if he was there over Sayers but I think Sayers offers more. I think Lyon needs to go back to shield and work on some variety. Again this is a case of O'Keefe imo offering more as a bowler with the addition of his batting.

For the additions I'm a big fan of Bancroft even if his shield states don't demand selection. I see him as a foil to Warner who is young and only getting better. I think Maxwell would add so much to the test team in all 3 areas. People question his temperament but he has a good shield record and adds a bit of X factor. O'Keefe deserves his shot and is out bowling Lyon atm. Sayers should have been in the team from the start imo. Offers swing and variation even if not the quickest.

Is Chris Lynn still playing Shield cricket? He has a First Class average in the mid 40's and is a good bat in all formats. He could come in for Voges
Would give Ferguson another go, would've said the same about Voges until that shot he played today.
SOK for Lyon is a must, I can't stand anymore of his round the wicket half trackers.

I've got about as much a clue as the selectors, maybe let these plodders see out the series before we start ruining the next batch of kids.

Strongly agree about Burns, I quite like this team probably because it's simailr to mine. Good to see we agree on Bancroft. Patterson is the next in line for me.

I like Bancroft, but he's gone off the boil a bit recently. Averaging 16 in the two Shield games so far this season. Lynn did his shoulder in Sri Lanka, didn't play in the Matador and hasn't played in the Shield so far. Maxwell isn't what we need at the moment, as he's just as prone as Warner for those brain fade dismissals. Maddinson is similar.

I still think Sayers is a new ball bowler and nothing more for mine. As for Lyon, I really think he cops it beyond what he deserves. I don't think SOK offers anything more except a more defensive outlook and better batting.

For me:

1-Burns
2-Warner
3-Khawaja
4-Smith*
5-White
6-Cartwright
7-Nevill+
8-O'Keefe
9-Starc
10-Hazlewood
11-Bird

White adds a bit of experience and is in form. Cartwright is a look at the future and bowls a bit. And those four are the best four bowlers available I reckon.

Maxwell can reverse sweep up out of trouble...
You know he has never had an innings of longer than 3 hours in his entire career??

Doesn't really worry me tbh. Maxwell has performed very well in shield cricket and averages over 40 with the bat and is a handy bowling option aswell. Not to mention his fielding is outstanding. We need abit of X factor at the moment and I have always thought he is better than someone pigoeon holed as a t20 specialist. What do we really have to lose. Before anything else we need class players and Maxwell is one of them even if he isn't the stereotypical test player

I disagree with a lot of this but also understand your view and where your coming from. Bancroft has started the season disappointingly and for mine is more of a gut pick than having the stats to back it up. I also thought he was sensational for Australia A aswell. Maxwell like Warner is suspect to a brain fade but he can also win crickey games for his team and I think we need someone that can do that right now instead of a average unthreatening middle order. I think Sayers has more to him than that but your not alone with this opinion and I imagine it's why he hasn't been picked for Australia. I like Lyon but he is in a rut and O'Keefe out bowled him in Sri Lanka before he did his hamstring

The game to pick sayers was this one just gone. bird is better for what the adelaide oval pitch will probably play like.,

The way i look at it is like this. if we are going to be terrible id rather it be a side that might build towards something. whats the best that can happen with voges for example. yeah throwing players to the wolves is a risk but man hanging around in shield cricket getting more and more mediocre isn't the answer either

Like if we are going to lose with stopgap measures might as well actually try and rebuild the side.

Maxwell is not a test player. Should be in the ODI side but nowhere near tests.

Someone mentioned white? Lol. Just lol.

I had Bancroft in my team yesterday but he's struggling. That 2nd opener spot is the hardest spot to fill.

Bancroft
Warner
Khawaja
Smith
Burns
Patterson
Neville
Starc
Lyon
Hazelwood
Bird

Its a long tail if Neville doesnt score runs. Patterson has shown he can stand up to the next level with a hundred on debut in the Shield final.

Any way you look at it and any one you put in there the batting lineup is very thin.

Isn't Cam White 1000 years old??

For mine Mennie will never play Test Cricket again. Pedestrian isn't even the right word to describe his bowling.

Other than that IHNFI

I do feel a little for Joe Mennie, everyone seems happy to give Ferguson another shot after scoring next to no runs, whilst Mennie only got to bowl one innings and everyone (including myself) wants him gone.

One thing I will say is that Burns is not a test quality bat and one who doesn't even average 40 in first-class cricket.
