7 isn't too many. Good to see some of the blokes that played in 2013 putting their hands up for this.

Good to see only committed players selected. On another note should players who qualify thru American Samoan heritage be eligible,as American Samoans aren't actual citizens of America.in this case it looks like it's only Tui Samoa anyway but at the last RLWC half the team qualified this way.

And of the 7 overseas players most of them are born in the USA they aren't ring ins by any means
Freed, Offerdahl, both Howards, Tui Samoa (born in American Samoa)
Dunno about Barron but at worst they've included 1 heritage player in a squad of 20, a testament of intent to develop domestic players and recognize domestic performances.

Probably because America Samoans are USA nationals and entitled to represent the USA. I am fairly sure only a handful of the successful world cup team were American Samoan.

To clear things up
Taylor Alley - Central Florida Warriors
Luke Barron - Mitchelton Panthers *Actually from the CT Wildcats and Kristian Freed invited him to play in OZ for the season. So really a USA player, but played the last season in Australia.
Ryan Burroughs - NOVA Eagles
Sam Carson - Norths Devils
Casey Clark - Philadelphia Fight
Abe Cohen - New York Knights
Kristian Freed - Mitchelton Panthers - played for the CT Wildcats in 2013 and WC last time round
Rich Henson - Philadelphia Fight
Danny Howard - Wentworthville Magpies - WC Qualifiers and WC Team last time around
Steve Howard - Wentworthville Magpies - WC Qualifiers and WC Team last time around
Taylor Howden - Mid-West Stockyarders - Mostly Union, from NZ but USA resident since 2008. Has helped RL in the Midwest and the Chicago Stockyarders out him forward.
Andrew Kneisly - Philadelphia Fight
Roman Lowery - Philadelphia Fight
Nick Newlin - Atlanta Rhinos
Mark Offerdahl - London Broncos - CT Wildcat for 2013 and WC team last time around
Jon Purnell - Jacksonville Axemen
Tui Samoa - Young Cherrypickers - American Samoan and I believe WC team last time around.
Mike Timpano - Philadelphia Fight
Matt Walsh - Connecticut Wildcats
Kevin Wiggins - Delaware Black Foxes

So the only guy who has not previously played for the USA National team, OR for the USA Domestic Comp is Sam Carson, who was bought to the attention of the USARL by Steve Johnson. After all checks were made, he is a great young player and seems to want to help develop the game in the USA as a player.

And to answer the question on limits. My personal belief is that in any 17 man roster only 8 should be "non-domestic" players. This limit ensures that there is always a majority of domestics (9) in any named team, and always 5 on the field.

And by domestic, I mean a USA Citizen OR someone who can claim residency (usually 3 years) and has registered and played at least one season in the domestic USA competition. Thus having helped grow the game domestically.

That would seem (a) fair, and (b) ensure there is always ample opportunity for domestic players to aspire to.

Lets be honest, if you cant be competitive with only 5 domestic players on the field, are you really developed enough to progress past teams? With 8 "heritage players" whom we will assume all have at least high level QCUP or NWSCUP (or higher) experience on the paddock, can we not find a place for 5 domestics on the field at any time? If not then more work needs to be done on the domestic development.

Well said Spinner. That should be the framework for every RLWC qualifier.Nations like Serbia have next to no chance vs Italy and their team of heritage players.

This philosophy should be very good for the domestic development.
With that being said theres been talk in here about the guys that have already represented the USA and been here before..Of these new domestic guys, anyone we should keep an eye out? Or some literature on them?

Casey Clark is always a game changer when he is on the field. I'd also keep an eye on Ryan Burroughs, Jon Purnell, and Abe Cohen. All three had great matches against Canada in the Colonial Cup.

Paulo ....Probably because he wasn't picked? Yes Garvey looks the best local player so odd he isn't there.
It seems most posters are fans of a national teams being picked from the domestic national comp with a limited number of pros playing in foreign comps... a bit like the ARU policy.

Each nation is free to make its own policy but only Australia and England wouldn't be too harmed by that. NZ are picked from NRL and SL so they would be weakened as would the rest of the top 10 nations some of whom have very limited domestic comps.
How does the sit with trying to make Test football the pinnacle again.

Plays for Philly. Played for Ipswich and was in the last WC side. Based on all that you'd think he'd be there but maybe he's either injured, unavailable or they just think there are better centres.
