In alot of set plays, Paulo definitely plays middle half. He gets it as first receiver then out to Sandow and then Hayne.

he's a f**king back rower who some times plays first receiver in some set plays

he aint no half back

Are you just arguing semantics now? Of course he is not playing in the halves because he defends in the middle. But how many other 'locks' play the same role as Joseph Paulo? The only one is John Sutton and he's been forced back to the left hand side of the field (jersey 6).

Calling this role 'middle half' says more about the reality on the ground than just calling him the 'lock'. That extra tight forward is the most varied position on the field. The way he is used pretty much defines a team's attacking structure.

as pou a last year , if you have so so halves it makes sense as u have another option. however I thought with Norman sandow hayne with the strike power of hoppa and Tonga, that his role just adds another cook

but what it has provided is a little something extra whereby sometimes the player he passes to makes a half break and give us a quick play the ball and allows Sandow et all a little more time to prepare a back line raid

It just lets the halves get wider. If you have two halves with good running games, as we do, you don't want them stuck at first receiver every time they get the ball.

Using a forward as a link man to push a half into second receiver is hardly a new or innovative concept. Caylo was doing it for years! The lack of ball skills amongst our props make Joseph's role in the team that much more important.

It does seem that Paulo has the 'main role' of meterage through the middle (aka the standard lock role). However he also has a 'licence' to play the ball before the line (I don't see him offloading in traffic much, seems like he is told to pass before the line or run it).

It's more the role that Glenn Stewart plays at Manly, except Glenn does it on the right edge, Paulo through the guts.

why is an opposing view semantics ?

I'm not the one who accused him of being our third halfback

Another one who used to chip and chase, put up bombs and pass was Paul Mares.

He was a real goer but then suffered some bad injury
