Sounds like it was the Bryce Cartwright show tonight.
What the hell are we going to do with Blake? Killing it in his first few games in NSW Cup but Idris and Whare in front of him for what looks like a long time.

But the same story with Bryce. Offensively it was arguably the best game I've seen in a long time. Great deft touches, soft hands, chip and chases but defensively he was exposed.

If he adds just that little bit of mongrel in him defensively...he'll be one of the best forwards in the game. Nothing I saw tonight would make me hesitate to put him in the #17 and play him 20-30 minutes...but I'd be worried defensively with him in there for longer.

Filling in at five-eight last night he was simply outstanding.

As with Blake...from being at the game last night the match report said he made the break but it wasn't him it was Nabuli.

He had a quiet night for mine, conceded a bad try defensively but just solid nothing spectacular. Certainly wouldn't say he "killed it" in this game...but he certainly did vs Newcastle. However I think he was hampered by an injury tonight.

That's the thing with Bryce and any young guy. We only need them to handle 20 odd minutes as have a few 80min players.

As for Blake we could need 2 wingers next year & a few seasons down the track I see Idris going into the backrow. ATM he has some poor reads in defence but that will come.

A few players comeback after the bye so he can take what he's learnt back to NYC.

I guess the problem for Bryce is he's surrounded by other guys in our NSW Cup team who are also pretty raw. There's no one in there that can show him "wow that's what you need to do to be a success in the NRL". We also have such a strong squad that we'll post a lot of points and generally win, despite average defence. I think it's probably time for Bryce as well. Give him 4 games off the bench and then leave him in NSW Cup for the remainder of the season. We're the third best defensive team so Bryce will learn plenty.
Given our juniors are what should propel us into genuine premiership contention you cab see why Cleary has put the focus on setting the defensive standard. These young players have few issues in attack but having to contribute in this squad will round them out a lot better.

I'd imagine Nathan Smith would be a good mentor for him to play 100% and put in every time.

The weird thing with Bryce is he plays above to the level of the competition he is playing.

He was in 20's...played above.

In NSW Cup...took some time and now playing above that level. You can just tell watching last night he was an absolute class above that group. You need to give him a sniff otherwise he may get bored.

A very important game tomorrow. If we are serious we will end this WLWL crap and record back to back wins for the first time this year.
Canberra have had two towel ups and will be looking to bounce back at home at a ground we don't like playing at.
If we want to make the 8 this year the Raiders must be beaten tomorrow.

Ryan Simpkins played tonight for Penrith in NSW Cup.

Sam Anderson is travelling as 18th man to Canberra.

Good stuff, I hope Anderson gets a run. He can cover either front row or Lock, he doesn't throw the ball around because he's told not to. Tough and has a big motor.
Rumour has it, TG pulled up with calf soreness after training yesterday and Docker has a fractured thumb and hasn't trained since the knights game. Waiting to trial a brace on his thumb to see if he can play.

Agree with the sentiments about Bryce, he's terrific in attack but is a liability in defence.Should , and will get his chance in FG but needs to clean up his D before stepping up.

Hope we can continue the trend and put 50 on the Raiders, but will be happy with a one point win.

With John down will Cartwright play 6 until he gets the call up?

I guess now if Wallace or Soward go down Capewell will be next in.

Smith would have played 5/8 last night but was out injured.

Kevin Naiqama played centres next to Nabuli and Blake replaced Smith and played next to Eisenhuth who for some reason was on the wing.

Not just him. Brown, Plum & Kingston are all due back for the Parra game. All 3 I expect will come straight into the team.

Maybe, it just seems to me they're counting Smith as a centre now.

Nah seems like they thought the backrow with Bryce was stronger then starting Ayoub or Foster in the halves. Both got time in the halves while Bryce had no set position I guess a roaming lock.

Not sure about Smith but in the next fortnight DWZ, Wes, Brown, Plum, Humble, Kingston all return so be interesting to see where he fits in the pecking order.

If we win tomorrow & the roosters lose to the cowboys we'll be 3rd on the table.

Given we haven't really hit top gear that's fairly amazing.

We are now nailed on to lose.

(a) coming off a good win
(b) coming up against a side in a shit run of form
(c) a win will put us in a enviable spot on the table

Our only hope is the enduring ineptness of Ricky Stuart, but even that may not be enough.

Actually, just looking at the table, if we win big, we could go 2nd, yet if we lose by enough, we could be 12th behind the Warriors. That's crazy.
