Most difficult games you ever played?

In the newer generation I would say Dark Souls

Old games are way harder though because of the save systems and gameplay limits. Probably Battletoads or Castlevania for me

The original video games in pinball parlours.

They were designed to get the maximum amount of 20c pieces they could. Too tough and people would not play. Too easy and the revenue was down.

Get it right and it was a mix of success, frustration and temptation to have another go. Compelling & hard. As soon as the makers realised they could charge good bucks up front for a play-at-home game everything got easier, with unlimited lives, save points etc.

Even the original Crash Bandicoot on PS1 has some frustrating bonus round thingo you had to complete just to save your game.

I remember Alex The Kidd In Miracle World being pretty tough on the Master System. One hit and you're gone. Though that's nothing compared to Contra, and this game...

Tmnt on the original Nintendo.

Took me years to defeat shredder with the floor disappearing underneath you.

Haha yeah, there was one that let you move through the walls on that level

 how???

i remember people were making up shit about cheats and being able to go through doors (which were just part of the background), but it made alot people waste time trying to do it

i remember that level, i think it was the 3rd one, where you had to keep going into the same building again and again and again... to get more of that scroll weapon for later in the game. after i had the game for a bit, i could always get to the last level (the technodrome) but kept dying there. it used to piss me off alot because it took around 3 hrs i think just to get to it each time. when i finally got to shredder and destroyed him, i swore at him and at the game for being so frustrating.
i loved it but hated it at the same time :)
havent played it for a couple of decades. i wonder how i'd find it now...
