Less than 10k to a game. Geez if we want to keep games at regional grounds then we need to at least turn up in droves to these grounds.

I agree. Disappointing. I was sitting in my seats in the main grandstand and there were so many gaps across on the hill and the northern end. I don't agree with a lot of things that are going on at Board level but not turning up at Kogarah on a sunny Sunday afternoon to watch them only gives fuel to their argument to move away. We have to get to the games.

It would be possible if:

1. The right venue was promoted online.
2. The scheduling was such so it really would be the 'right game, right venue' and not something where the best games were sold off to neutral venues.
3. The Club properly promoted the game.
4. The NRL properly promoted the game.

Some online outlets couldn't believe we had a Sunday afternoon game with google listing saying the game was in Wollongong.

1, 3 and 4 are easy fixes. Unfortunately, the Club can't even advertise the game out the front of the Taj... that's just the tip of the iceberg and an indication to me that they don't want us there.

In relation to the other point (2), the opposition supporters were almost zero. So it was all Saints supporters, and therefore a solid supporter base in the area.

You're absolutely correct that fans could do more, going to the game is a good start. But that said, we still had an official crowd number of just under 10K. We have a national member fan base of roughly 19,700. So you could argue that we have a good core of local supporters despite all the hurdles and club stuff ups.

Can we stop with the f**kin excuses.

The nostalgic value of kogarah to a few thousand supporters does not offset the place being an absolute shithole that most fans don't like attending

The regulars keep supporting the club and doust keeps pissing on them.

Let's look at who we play at our home grounds (ANZ is not our home ground).

Wollongong:
Brisbane
Cronulla
Melbourne
Penrith

Kogarah:
NZ
NQLD
Manly
GC

The next step for our club is 6 games at ANZ, to accommodate all NSW team. Til eventually......

I agree, there is no excuse for bad management and terrible promotion. That's what you meant, right?

Please select:

A. Useless piece of trolling, or
B. Thank you for your positive and uplifting contribution.

I assume you did not attend last weekend and/or have no intention of offering anything of value to the discussion?

Right game, right venue... Good thing the Derby game was held at the gong and not Kogarah.

Lower crowds at Kogarah and WIN this year as all the "blockbuster games" have gone to big venues w suburbans catching the warriors / titans / panthers end of the stick . The amount of home venues also dilutes the identification of dragons and kogarah and WIN which contributes to the dip along with the teams performance / Dragons footy. It was a small crowd but the atmosphere and feel on Sunday was really good

I feel the Club hoisted the white flag some time ago.

Posted this in JA... there was a time when the Club used to promote the next game on a billboard outside the Leagues Club. It was seen by tens of thousands of motorists every day and worth bums on seats. That sign is long gone and has been replaced by this, taken last Sunday:

live-jazz-stglc.jpg

Live Jazz, Sunday at 3:00 PM.

For reasons that I cannot comprehend, the Club in its wisdom feels that live Jazz is a better money earner than a football game over the road. One hopes that it is only slack management, because the alternative reason isn't at all pretty.

In my opinion, it simply highlights an "I don't care" attitude.

But as I said, this is just the tip of the iceberg. How many people rolled up to Wollongong because of the online advertising? How many simply didn't know the game was on? How many extra thousands of $ has the Club missed out on? So many more questions, too many to post here.

The Club are crying poor and using this as an excuse to sell off our best home fixtures, and yet they can't lift their game enough to make a buck in their own backyard. It makes no sense.

I believe the club has already made a decision on its long term future, but isn't prepared to share it yet with we fans. It will end up with 6 games at Homebush, with the other 6 spread around between Kogarah, Wollongong and Allianz/SCG.

That would explain the complete apathy in promoting games, such as last week. The only other explanation is complete ineptness, which I guess is also possible.

But the constant reference to declining revenues from the Leagues Club, and the easy out in terms of guaranteed revenue presented by staging games at Homebush, is too much for this board to resist. It means they don't have to do as much to keep their jobs.

ever think it has been deliberately allowed to become a shithole the last few seasons as current management does not want us there???

The clubs marketing is atrocious because they are.
They aren't smart enough to run a non marketing agenda to reduce crowds.
This would involve thinking.

It all depends on the reason you go to the game. I can remember what the place was like about 40 years ago - the old grandstand, the long lines to the sh*thouse, the long lines to buy some food. About 30 yrs ago I used to take my 3 young girls each week to the footy to watch the Dragons. In those days they had the match of the Week at the SCG and the Dragons - on of the more successful Clubs - often played at this ground. However, my girls used to really enjoy catching the train to Carlton, walking down to the ground, buying a hot dog, program and doubles ticket at the entry.

We liked watching the footy and my little girls especially liked watching the cheer girls - they used to stand up down the front of the stand at half time and copy all their dance moves.

The facilities are important and will be improved if the is increasing demand from the local community. What is most important is the culture, success and professionalism of the Club.

For me, we have gone down a long way and I do not have confidence in our current Board's ability to take us back up where we belong. That is why I have become a voting member; I sure hope more talanted people will stand for Board positions at the next election.

.

Personally I don't give a f**k about food & drink cues. I've been going to Kogarah for over 36yrs, when we use to get 16-20 thousand league fans there on a regular basis. There was a lot less amenities available, you'd be cramped on the hill trying to keep a bit of space for your mates to stand 'cause they'd be running late trying to get there after work & we would go over to the club after the game for a beer. We just loved being at Kogarah, nobody whinged and whined about the cues, not like the mollycoddle softcocks that won't go to a game today because they won't step out of there comfort zone.
And no true ST GEORGE supporter would ever refer to our spiritual home ground as " AN ABSOLUTE SHITHOLE ".
But perhaps I'm just one of few thousand that love the " nostalgic value of Kogarah " . I'm so glad that my mates & I have those memories. Memories of grown men triumphantly hugging fellow supporters, almost crying tears of joy, or consoling each other after a loss. We were at Kogarah, our home, the home of some of the greatest players to ever grace the game. To have it referred to as an " ABSOLUTE SHITHOLE " is an ABSOLUTE INSULT to the men that played there, & to LOYAL FANS .
You sir are a f**kING CHOAD !

Well said Mongo. The men that built this great club wore their bruises on that beautiful turf.

Every time I go to Jubilee, I hear a different memory. Some are decades old while others recall something from just last year.

And FTR... all those who come to Kogarah are made to feel welcomed. In my experience, oldies and newbies alike love to hear the stories.

But I wouldn't pay too much attention to dangerlessdave. He probably hasn't been to Kogarah since the 1930s, which is kind of unfortunate. But I suppose he has his gripes. Maybe someone was mean to him once.

You're right champ, but like many other of our fans I love our ground it's like our "Fortress of Solitude", it's almost sacred ground & should always be defended.

The grass at ANZ is going to wear out. There are such a lot of games being played there now. Only good game played there is SOO when the joint is full.

NRL has made it pretty clear they want to consolidate the grounds and focus on big stadiums. I think either Parramatta or Penrith may get big upgrade to consolidate as shared home ground for the westies. I see ANZ being shared home ground for Tigers, Dogs, Dragons and Souths.
Roosters will end up having double bite of cherry as SFS is being upgraded too.
We may be lucky to get a couple games in Wollongong and trial games at Kogarah...
