Using a spot on the bench for a hooker is useless. Unless they can play just as effectively as a lock, or edge forward then there's no point in carrying one. Neither GF teams carried a 2nd hooker despite their usual players out, none of the 4 teams in the semi-final did either. Peats can go 80 minutes, why not use him and keep our team at the best it can be for 80 minutes?

I wouldn't be able to name a team that was competitive with 2 hookers all year. I know Souffs did it at one stage when Luke was injured but as soon as he was eligible they went straight back to just using him.

Peats can cover lock.

I think a big part of the reason he got injured was that he pushed himself to play 80 minutes at the intensity he plays. It can't be effectively done IMO.

i think also there was no body else bringing that sort of passion and energy into our line speed. Next year with Watmough, Moeroa, Mau, a fit Lussik/Mossop etc he should have plenty of guys helping him out.

i'd have de gois as the bench utility, but it is an interesting dilemma that one of lussick/gower/edwards would need to miss out. it is a good sign of depth.

So we let go of Fui, Smith and Tanginoa and sign Watmough and all of a sudden with the same players that finished 2014 we have a dilemma about who doesn't make the top 17 and we have a good sign of depth.

That would indicate we already had pretty good depth but I guess BA didnt think there was enough quality to cover injuries/suspension/etc. Geez the people on here going off about signing McPherson, Fa'aoso, Wicks, and Nelson are going to have field day cause we didn't need these guys after all. And we still have Allgood and Lasalo somewhere around too don't we?

I reckon our forward pack, including the depth we have signed for 2015 looks pretty good in fact.

If they can combine well in defence and tighten that up, as well as start to win the ruck with a bit of mongrel and doggedness, our backs will have some space to create points.

Looks like we are starting to get a balanced side on the books.

both FF and smith had regressed to the point that they were behind all the names in the team list above, and tanginoa for whatever reason in arthur's opinion wasn't good enough (as the coach I trust him).

So Peats is used better off the bench if that's the case. Peats is a hooker, he's the best hooker at the club. You don't play your best hooker in a different position just because he goes hard. It just means that he'll require more time in ice baths and recovery so he doesn't get any soft tissue injuries. Hard tissue injury can happen no matter your style of play.

Why would we need anyone to cover lock anyway? We have more than enough middle forwards for next year, so why waste an interchange taking him off to bring on a second hooker then wasting another one bringing him back on just so we can have him on the field? Watmough, Edwards, and Gower are all going to make much more of an impact than Peats in that middle forward position because they're used to doing it.

Of course it f**king can. It's not like he's a Segeyaro/Luke type hooker making a dozen runs a game. Peats would be lucky to run the ball every ten minutes.

The fact Peats got injured in his first year as an 80 minute hooker is almost certainly just coincidence. It's as unfounded as saying Peats (or Hopoate or Norman or Gower) pushed Jarryd Hayne out of the club. Try not to jump to conclusions regarding cause and effect.

If Peats can't play 80 minutes at hooker every week then we're paying too much and need to replace him with a hooker who can. Because carrying another dummy half on the bench is a massive waste of a spot.

Yep, no club plays two dummy halves besides Canberra and we all know Ricky is stuck in 2002.

You play two hookers when your best one isn't good enough for 80 minutes. I think Sticky's new Pommy hooker looks the goods. Will he be able to go the distance? Dunno.
