And yet Folau is 10 times the player that Hopa is at this point in time and has achieved 10 times more then him also. Go figure?

Pou, "10 times more" is a figure of speech, but you get the drift. He is everything that Hopa wants to be.

If Hopa doesn't find some real speed, then all his other attributes, will never really be maximized. Speed, speed speed, is the name of the game when it comes to outside backs in the NRL. Then their skills come to the fore. Without it, they will only be half the player that they could of been.

If he doesn't show speed next season, then I would cut him and sign Folau in an instant, if it came down to one or the other.

I hope not.... I want him to be better .. and all it takes is speed?

It's not about who's the better player, it's about who offers the most value for money. Folau is so high profile he would cost a fortune, and offer zero value. The exception is if the NRL tipped some money in or made him salary cap exempt, but if that were the case then why wouldn't he just go to a stronger club?

a little thing called the salary cap which is in our favour

I really rate Reece. He will be the surprise package of the season. Can do everything Ken Sio can do but with more strength and pace and a whole lot cheaper too.

I rate him, too, tho mostly off the strength of that stint he had when he replaced Dugan. Plenty of Raiders fans seem to as well, and reckon his form dipped when the Raiders didn't sign his brother. I don't know if he's any stronger than Sio, or much cheaper, but he's a fair bit faster. Very happy we got him.

He is decent.Gives us a few options if hoppa doesn't work out at fullback as well.
The first 10 rnds will be interesting on who we re-sign. Pauli should be first on the list.

I know what your saying POU as far as value goes. But you still cant have 17 average guys. You need a few gun players.

Re-signing Pauli all depends on what happens with Josh Aloiai. Aloiai is much like Moeroa but just a bit smaller. I'd much rather us keep Aloiai who has a much better overall game than Pauli and would be a bit cheaper because a lot of clubs will pay more for Pauli because of his potential.

Out of those off-contract at the end of next year the only one I'd say would be the most important re-signing is Will Hopoate. Despite what people say he's a damn good player and he has experience in the backline which we don't have at the moment. He's put on some weight already and has been training with Roger Fabri to work on his sprinting. Outside of him none of the others are too important depending who we sign, if we miss out on Foran then I'd say that Sandow becomes a priority signing.

Goodall, Lavaka, and Folau might be re-signed depending how they go in the NSW cup.

Pauli would not cost a bomb.He should be re-signed before season starts.
BA must rate him otherwise he would of not put him into the team this year and forced him too play big minutes. If the plan is to play him in the middle than it makes him more important. We don't have to many young guys in the middle.

Its funny how quickly people on here go off a player. He is 19 and went very well in a team where forwards where dominated. He has x factor.Must keep.

Spot on, laughable really after some of the plodders we have signed for next season that people are talking up.

In two or 3 years he could be the best forward in the comp he has that much upside. If the club let this kid go that will just about do me, he will go on to a successful club and kill it like they all do and we will still be waiting Another 20 years to win a comp.

I'm not off of him, I just think right now Josh Aloiai has a much better overall game. Pauli has amazing potential which is why I could see a team like the Dragons, Sharks, Titans, Knights, even Manly paying more money than we'd be willing to pay. I'd say we'd go as high as possibly $300k a year, other clubs may be pushing that $400k+ a season because of his potential and their lack of forwards coming through.

If players 18 to 25 are on minimum salary then players 1 to 17 are averaging just under $350k each. Hardly 'average guys'. And while I agree you don't want your best player only worth $350k, there's no point paying massive overs for an outside back just because you've got the space.

On top of that, Folau was an ordinary defender when he left the game, and five years of AFL and rugby won't have fixed that any.

Do you understand that if we pay overs for him it will hurt our chances of winning a premiership?

what are overs??? How do you know what we are going to pay for him??? What are overs for a guy who is potentially one of the best forwards in the comp??? We are paying around 400k for a massive plodder like Darcy Lussick, you had no problems with us paying that money when your Buddy Kearney signed him. You also were glad we got rid of Hayne as well, perhaps you won't be happy till we fill the side with Salty plodders???

Depends Pou on who we replace him with.I doubt any clubs going to offer him silly money yet.
Example would be say Lussick or Poore.Big $$$ played bad.We could sign another guy like these two and they go backwards.
You need 2 x factor players in your squad. It may mean back ending and suffering later on but if it means winning a comp every 7-8 yrs rather than finishing top 5 every year than your better off. Build a team-back end-try and win comp in that 2 yrs period,Suffer for 2 yrs rebuild and go again. Seems the only way to do it.
