The game.

It provides me with a link to home, some normality in a complex environment and an escape from a hectic schedule. I will watch as many games as I can but the Titans are my preference despite their obvious issues. Have serious issues getting access to games when traveling through other countries due to the NRL's very peculiar licensing arrangements but have managed to deal with that too.

Wrong.

I don't give a toss what papers say and barely read any, I refuse to watch the footy show and I went from having pay tv from 2000 ( when I moved to Australia ) and watching every game every week to ditching it and watching only Bronco games. It has zero to do with media and everything to do with the running of the game, the refs, judiciary ect. Apart from watching my Broncos play the game is very meh for me right now, including origin for the last 5 or so years despite being a Qld fan. Even when watching the Broncos play it's generally on as background noise while I do something else like draw or paint. I know a lot of people that support other clubs that feel the same.

So your not a big League fan.

Each to their own.

For mine the game has never been better. All that ginned up controversy that News and 9 have whipped up is just piss and wind.

I live in Melbourne and don't support the Storm, but go to games because I enjoy watching Rugby League.

Early 90s the game was great. Even mid 90s when all the shit was happening off the field the game was exceptional on it. It was football played by footballers. Not wrestling played by 'athletes'.

I disagree, 10-15 years ago the game was MUCH better.
Free flowing attacking footy.
Now it's a wrestle'a'thon from the players and a mistake'a'thon from the officials.

Early 90s the game was great. Even mid 90s when all the shit was happening off the field the game was exceptional on it. It was football played by footballers. Not wrestling played by 'athletes'.

Of course this is all subjective, and its personal opinion, so I have no doubt that you feel that way. But it's amazing how nostalgia clouds things.

I distinctly remember old timer's complaining about the game in the 90's and how there weren't "any footballers" anymore. How the interchange had ruined footy, and scrums were a joke.

The more things change.

And yet teams still made metres and scored tries. Amazing.
You also lost metres if the opposition drove you back. Remember that?

Now we have teams losing metres because players can't pass and catch properly because they're 'athletes'.

I have nothing against the 90's.

Just sick of people making it out to be more than it was.

The 00's were my favourite.

Why do you keep going back to the media? The media has nothing to do with it, look at the disdain everyone has for it on this site. Most on here won't even click on a link to a story let alone search them out to read.

The media doesn't need to sensationalize the fact the the refs make very obvious mistakes that cost teams games at times, the video refs make very blatant mistakes, wrestling is rampant and slows the game down, there is very obvious bias when it comes to certain things like Broncos Friday night ( 10 years ago I would be vocal about it being fair and wanting to see other clubs get their fair share ), Bulldogs having players get light or no suspension for players doing dog acts and also things other teams are having players suspended for once Greenburg got appointed, the inconsistent judicary, the game turning into who has the biggest players who can wrestle and slow down the play the ball mentality.....The list goes on and it gets worse every year. The media aren't the ones doing this, they are simply reporting on it. The game has a lot of people disillusioned and if it keeps getting worse or doesn't get fixed soon alot of fans will start walking.

Like I said mate, Im not having a go, your clearly not into Rugby League anymore, there isn't much I could say that would change that. My team doesn't get shown on FTA virtually at all, and yet I still like to watch the game as much as I can.

I think your issues are the same types of things that people have claimed right through the games existence.

If you don't enjoy watching Greg Inglis run the length of the field, Hayne dominating at Origin level or JT killing it then your probably not ever going to enjoy the game again.

This Greenberg conspiracy shit has to stop seriously.

Why, his mob fit all the criteria to be the most 'hated' by those who like to hate, more than enough for those who like to take the piss. Nothing to do with the players but the club with the most influential 'friends' and contributes the least to the welfare of the game. We need many more El Masri's and the Dogs are in the best position to promote the ideal, poaching is detrimental to more than Rugby League

Glass half empty type of person hey?

And if you don't think the constant bashing of the sport by news limited has an impact then you have rocks in your head!

If the general public read the news ltd press and took as much notice of what they said as the anti-news ltd brigade on here does we might be in trouble.

Really? Care to explain why leading up to the finals Reynolds got the same suspension for a blatant trip, head high and kick to the face all in one game that other players we getting done for that was less of a shoulder charge that Williams got nothing for? Cause you know that wasn't suss at all. The dogs got away with playing like dogs, Graham even got away with trying to take Sam out in the opening minutes of the Grand Final.

Nope not that sort of person at all, when your partner has MS looking at life that way will tear you down pretty quickly. Maybe having a young family on top of that has changed my perspective and out look to the point the game has shifted way down my priorities list or that I don't have a high tolerance for blatant ineptitude or half arsed efforts or no accountability or obvious favoritism.

Its not just News though, CH9 and 2UE is just one long whinge fest as is most Fairfax news.

No sport in the world is covered in that way by its "own" media. Lots of sports cop flak from media outlets not associated with them (i.e. the NFL, EPL etc.) but not by their own official broadcasters.
