Stars & Stripes is way too much of a mouthful, PLEASE do not choose that !

of the other 2, Mustangs is better, but not great; Generals is awful, reminds me of war and killing

Shame about Patriots and Tomahawks, they were great; the latter especially was really unique

US Hawks would do it for me !

Being an American, off the top of my head; some names could be: Colonials, Yankees, Revolutionaries or Revolution, Independence, Liberty, Bison, or Constitution.

There is nothing more American than "Stars and Stripes". Not even the Eagle. Heck, the national anthem is about the Stars and Stripes. TBH, I can't believe Stars and Stripes hasn't been used before by someone. As for Patriots - I don't see how that rugby guy can keep a TM on that. Wouldn't the NFL's New England Patriots have a hold on such a thing if you could.

I thought about Revolution, but that means you'd be announcing the team as 'US Revolution' which is the name of a historical event. Same goes for 'US Constitution' etc. Yankees is the only one that would really work, and that's already too heavily associated with NY Yankees.

As for the other names suggested, you could go anywhere in the world and start a team called 'Hawks', hell, I used to play for a team called Hawks and there were three other Hawks in our league alone. I can't think of a more bland and mundane name for the USA national team. Equally with something like Mustangs, that could be the name of any team. There's only one thing the 'Stars and Stripes' could be.

The USA Stars and Stripes! Really? What a horrible name for a sporting team, how could anyone vote for that?

We started out as being called Colonials, so I keep going back to that one.

Colonials makes sense to me. Not being American or particularly big on their history I wouldn't know, but are there any (short/unrelated to England) colloquial terms for the original 13 Colonies? With our sport being 13s you'd think that there must be something that can play on this nicely…

Edit: A quick google shows so much iconography based on the 13 beyond the flag. Hell you could even call them the Arrows or something, from the 13 arrows held by the eagle on their seal? I guess plenty of these have been taken though.

Because people are looking at it from an American POV and not just trying to come up with some generic nickname that could be given to an Aussie or English club side.

One important thing is to not offend a large group of people... anyone else remember when Athletics Australia tried to call the Australian Athletics Team "The Diggers"?

the stars and stripes will already be associated with the team,as it is with every american national team...do you need a double dose of flag waving patriotism??..

i mean...say you pick mustangs, when you play canada in a test match and a guy on a horse (mustang) leads the team out he'll be carrying the stars and stripes anyway won't he.....or a "general" leads the team out,he'll be waving the stars & stripes...

like i said the stars & stripes is a given, you get a free pass at another nickname.

ON THE FIRST FLAG OF THE UNITED STATES, THERE WERE 13 STARS, AND 13 STRIPES. So Stars and Stripes itself is about as American as you can get. And then the original flag has 13 of each. An interesting coincidence within history..........

Aren't the USA soccer team called The Yanks or The Stars and Stripes?

Rockets isn't a bad call.
They are according to Wikipedia, but I think they're more known in America as Team USA.

Rockets just makes me think of the Houston Rockets.
