Haha this whole place is like a drunkkard staggering around with a dagger swiping at whichever person his eyes can focus on for a second.

The Roosters were touted as wooden spoon candidates, in 13 before they won the premiership and were wayyyy over the cap suddenly. Now Penrith full of no names, no origin stars, riding an easy draw and a lot of luck to the finals, are under the hammer despite signing a back up hooker in the last year.

Did someone mention the Roosters and salary cap in the same sentence, an oxymoron if there ever was one :)

They've been astute with their figures.

You only have to research who Easts had to let go to fit everyone under the cap in the past few years.

People have to understand that the days of getting brown paper bags filled with money are over.

You ever tried to get an extra $100 to $200k and try to hide it.

You can't put it in the bank, you can't dig a hole and bury it for fear of either losing it or someone accidentally coming across it,etc, etc.

And money laundering is a very serious federal offense.

I could find a myriad of ways making sure a player, and maybe someone close to him enjoyed/finished his career far better off than any records revealed and I'm just an old man of average intelligence . . . the player would have to be special though

Jason Taumalolo with supposed offers from the Roosters, Sharks & Dragons ( and probably others ) plus interest in union ( if an offer comes ) & even American Football. I'm sure the Cowboys will have him as their priority to re-sign, so it'll be another field day for social media as he joins the Foran, Cherry-Evans & Merrin circus.

Brown paper bags = no more. Money outside the cap = far from over.

And it can be done without resorting to money laundering.

Research. lol. The only research you can do is through media publishing and they wouldn't have a clue.

You must be the NRL salary cap auditor.

Cash is everywhere nowdays and tax evasion is as common as having a cup of coffee. One example is low document loans where tax returns are not required because their taxable income is too low to support the loan.

Cash money is simply put into house renovations or used as spending money and on holidays.

I agree, the salary cap has always been a bit of a farce, it just that some people believe the spin.

Does it do anything effective?
Are we better off with/without it?

I've got an open mind.

If anything it has probably helped prevent poorly run clubs going broke.

We can always try to fix / improve the system, but again I'm not convinced that is worth pursuing.

People often overlook the fact that this was in fact the motivation behind it in the first place. It is designed to protect clubs from themselves.

I wonder if Foran and DCE are waiting to see what the other one does first as they don't want to be stuck at Manly as the only recognised half,

Anyone know if Andrew Johns is still with Manly coaching staff ?

If so, this might keep Foran at Manly !! :sarcasm:

The longer this saga drags on the more likely DCE and Foran are to stay at Manly imo.

The irritating part of their non decision, especially Foran, is that Manly cant plan for the future asap, as I think Sezer is a great talent, and would blossom if surrounded by quality players.

Also Maloney would be a useful 2 year stopgap too.

Taumalolo to cronulla ?

http://www.dailytelegraph.com.au/sp...next-paul-gallen/story-fnp0lyn3-1227215104247

NORTH Queensland superstar Jason Taumalolo has revealed a desire to become the next Paul Gallen of the NRL as it emerged the Kiwi Test star was in negotiations for a potential move to Cronulla.

Taumalolo is this week living out one of his rugby league dreams, forming a backrow partnership with Gallen in the NRL All Stars team and learning from the NSW skipper Gallen he has idolised his entire career.

It is a combination which could become more permanent with Taumalolo last weekend spotted in the Shire meeting with Cronulla as the Sharks join the likes of the Sydney Roosters in circling the off contract 21-year-old.

INJURY LISTS: STARS SIDELINED AHEAD OF OPENER

The Cowboys remain confident they will retain Taumalolo and gave permission for his trip to meet clubs in Sydney last weekend, but won’t enter into a bidding war to pay overs for a lock forward.

Taumalolo was coy on his future when asked in All Stars camp, but a slip of the tongue however may be the first indication the offers from down south could be simply too good to refuse.

“I’m sure when the opportunity comes I will talk to my manager about what’s out there for me as a player and on the market or staying with the Cowboys,” he said.

“First and foremost it’s my last year here with the Cowboys and I’m definitely going to make the most of it. If it’s my last year, or I guess you know, they’ve looked after me through the whole of my career and I definitely want to repay them for that.

“Definitely every game of footy I will give it all my best.”

Foremost in Taumalolo’s mind this week is learning from the player he considers a “once in a generation” talent in Gallen.

This week marks a major milestone for Gallen too as it will be his first rugby league game since serving his ASADA drug suspension.

Given the respect and admiration from an emerging young star like Taumalolo it’s clear that Gallen’s reputation among his peers is hardly diminished in the wake of his drugs admission last season.

“To be honest there was probably one player that I looked up to that’s from outside the Cowboys and I still look up to him now and it’s definitely Gal,” Taumalolo said.

“Just his competitiveness and how tough a player he is. He has done it all in the NRL. He has won State of Origins, played Test footy and was obviously captain of Cronulla and I look up to Gal.

“He has all my respect and just to share the field with him is an honour and a privilege in itself so Gal is definitely the player that I’m most looking forward to sharing the field with.

“If I have the opportunity I will ask Gal how he does it and how he prepares, especially at his age.

“The age he is right now and still to be pushing out 80 minutes in Origin, that is something special and I guess Gal will be one of those players up there as once in a generation.

“Just spending a week with Gal and getting to know him as a person is special in itself.”

I hope he means to say "its the last year of my current contract here with the cowboys...."
