2015 State of Origin

If you can find me some stats for origin over the last 8 years I would love to look at them. In particular the defensive stats, LBA's and try assists for Pearce. They won't be flattering.

His stats would be fine which is why he kept getting picked. It wasn't until it was 'time for a change', Aussie politics style, that he became the scapegoat. Pearce also had a series of shitty fullbacks in support, whereas Hodkinson/Reynolds had Hayne for three games. Plus age finally caught up to the Queensland brains trust.

Pearce is a better player than Reynolds. This is proven by their performance at club level every year as well as their performances at Origin level. If we won with Reynolds we would have won with Pearce.

There is no way in f**king hell you know that. Now your just making stuff up to suit your argument.

Well he is going to have more shitty fullbacks this year. We making excuses for him already?

He has won a premiership. That doesn't make him a star but it does mean he copes with pressure.
 that was the game where Sonny Bill got them back in the game and Pearces opposite number got the player of the match in a losing side. Pearce has failed time and time again in origin and it must be just a coincidence the first year he isn't picked we win????

I do know that because Pearce is a better player than Reynolds. There is no salary cap in Origin so no need to settle for an inferior player.

Still a few good rounds to play before origin selection

Josh Reynolds will be there if he gets some form going

He seems to needle the queenslanders, put them off their game rather than have blinders himself. Seemed to have worked rather than what pretty boy Pearce has offered. But he does need some consistent form before getting picked

Hokinson has the calmness we need, he should be there

 You love to argue for the sake of it. Pearce is shit, always folds under pressure you only have to watch him today down the back end of the game. I'm not a huge Hodko fan but last year with the game on the line he scored that try to get us home. Pearce has never done that for NSW and i doubt he ever will. But you keep championing the cause of one of the most overrated footballers in the history of origin. Today he was totally outplayed by Jeff Robson offs!!

Pearce is clearly a better footballer than both Reynolds and Hodkinson.
Neither of the Canterbury halves should be anywhere near Origin.
I wasn't much of a fan of Adam Reynolds before, but over the last year or so I've come to think he's a pretty damn good player. Easily better than Hodko and J. Reynolds as well.

I'm hoping he's not injured at Origin time, because I think he might just be the player we need.

Up until this weekend, I thought NSW looked a good bet to retain the SOO, given QLD's aging team. With Reynolds out for 5 months and watching Pearce and Maloney today, that view has changed. Daley will probably go with the incumbents which fills me with no confidence. Only other option being Mullen was terrible last night and looked slow.

Can't say the front row stocks look all that great either, which means the imposter from NQ will probably gain another SOO series, which would be undeserved.

One try?
You're going off one try?

Sure he did score that try, but for the rest of the games he was non-existent. His kicking was poor, especially to his wingers. Hell, we picked Tupou on the wing for one reason only, and that was because he is an aerial threat...but Hodkinson couldn't get the ball to him. Not once.

Hayne was the major reason we won last year's series. It's no coincidence that he was finally fit and picked at fullback when we won for the first time in 8 years.

Gal, Woods, Fifita, Klemmer? Pretty decent if you ask me.

Yep, good objective observation. Like these other haters, I'm jealous of Pearce too but credit where credit is due. We didn't lose all those series because of him and we didn't win because of Josh Reynolds. Pearce is s much better player. Just because he's had an easy life doesn't mean he didn't earn Origin selection. Hayne's Origin record isn't much better than Pearce's, even though Hayne is a much better player.

When the game was on the line he scored that try to get us the game, tell me when Pearce ever stood up in origin when the game was on the line??? I do remember him butchering a 4 on 1 overlap and kicking on the 3rd with the game on the line. Sadly he is probably the most talented half in NSW but when it gets down to the crunch in the big moments he shits his pants.

Gallen
Woods
Fifita
Klemmer
Paul Vaughn
Snowden
Mannah

All playing well at the moment, and most have Origin or International experience. I think we will be ok for props (even though I do think Tamou will probably get a spot).

Hell, even Danny Wicks might get a call-up. :sarcasm:

So, you're saying we should give the spot to someone who isn't as talented?

We won despite Reynolds and Hodkinson, not because of them.

Can you tell us 1 game when Pearce had an outstanding origin game? In such a crucial position I don't think he has ever won a man of the match, players player or put in a dominant performance. He is a decent club player but not up to origin.

Hodkinson didn't have an outstanding game either.
He had one outstanding run. Apart from that he was invisible.
Reynolds was more noticeable than Hodko, but not for good reasons. It was like he was actively working against the Blues. His series was worse than anything Pearce put up.

I'm not going to sit here and say Pearce has played well in Orign. I can't. He has played poorly.
But he may be the best we have, and has matured as a player over the last couple of years.

He might not be the best option...but he is a damn sight better than the blokes who were there last year.

Hayne's record in his best position (fullback) is actually pretty good. Hayne hasn;t had the luxury of playing in his best position like Pearce has.
