We have to rent first before we buy....no use buying a $750K+ house on the strength of some f**king photoshopped real estate agent's images.

From 1965 until 1985 I lived in Riverwood. For the last ten years of that time, Sydney became the arsehole of the world. After that, Chester Hill when I bought my first house in 1985.

Moved south for reasons nobody needs to know....but...Punchbowl, Wiley Park, Lakemba, Campsie, Belmore, Canterbury, Greenacre, et al, needed to be nuked.

Maybe Telopea Street, Punchbowl, will give you an idea of my feelings. Last words...f**k those Lebanese merkins. My first wife lived in Rossmore Avenue with her parents when I met her...get the idea? One street across.

If you ignore football Melbourne shits on Sydney from a great height. Every way that Sydney is broken, Melbourne just works. Getting around is easy, public transport especially makes Sydney look third world.
In particular Melbourne deals with crowds much better than Sydney. Whether it's Derby day, Sporting events, rush hour, whatever. I wouldn't live in Sydney again, ever. Too many people and governments who don't want to spend money on infrastructure to accommodate them. Melbourne is the polar opposite. I would live there again but be prepared to ay for foxtel cause there ain't no other way you're going to see football of our persuasion without tracking down a league friendly pub with Imparja.

I lived in Sydney and then Melbourne for 6 years each.

The are very similar. Melburnians are far more parochial. The traffic is also equally horrendous. PT was better for me,but that depends on the area you live in. Ignore BF. The fact he whiines so much is a selling point for Melbourne.

That's the reason I got out of both. Now enjoying the Gold Coast. But it's not for everybody. I just love having a little of the feel of the city but being able to have that suburb feel but only live 5 mins away from where it's all happening.

Only thing I miss is concerts. Who decided to put that Brisbane entertainment centre in the middle of nowhere should be shot. Last concert I spent two hours getting pissed in the car with a mate in the car park. Felt 18 again.

You didn't need to mention it, that's the point, you made Sydney's south-west sound like a shithole making the entire city sound bad, but at the same time, you didn't mention that Melbourne has exactly the same thing, if not WORSE than Sydney, which doesn't exactly shine a light on it.
