Ian Millward (Recruitment) was interviewed on the Footy show about Coote. Said that Rein/Marshall/Thompson/Creagh were the main things they are working on at the moment. Said club is wanting to retain Benji and Beni wants to stay but just a matter of dollars available. Didn't deny the club was chasing Coote.

Thought he was only working with junior pathways??
Isn't Warwick the recruitment bloke now???

Surely not much effort with Creagh/ to retire and time has been called on Benji? Thompson was on big dollars but is injury prone? Leaving Rein to sort out? Find whatever cash we have plus the extra from Dylan Farrell to snag Coote. Not only is he a quality player but also mature and level headed,

If Mary is planning on signing Coote to play in the halves he is crazy. Coote is a fullback and therefore we don't need a fullback now that Mary has finally caught up to the rest of us and moved Dugan back to fullback.
Buying players, playing them out of position and then expecting them to learn another position whilst in first grade is half the reason our attack has looked so disjointed over the last 4 seasons.... Surely they have learnt their lesson by now?

Correct, I said similar in an earlier post. Surely Mary can't be this slow to work it out.

Agreed. I believe Coote played a bit of 5/8 at Penrith, but it still leaves us short an organising half...just an updated version of of the sputtering Benji/Widdop partnership.

Coote has good all round skill and smarts, that's something a team like ours could use. Everyone is saying that he's not a half or talking about signing a halves partner for Widdop but I think Coote is actually a better player. There's also not many options on the market.

Fullback or five eight it does not matter Coote has something that no one has except widdop at times in our team has its lateral vision . We need points in our team and he is one of few left on the market that can provide it

so you're ok if Dugan goes back to centre to accommodate Coote? :?

If Dugan is in the side then the only position for Coote is at 6. So maybe it's time for Mary to swap Benji and Widdop around to see if Widdop is a good 7.

Then we have Mann. In my opinion, Mann's best position would be at 6. We need to look at life after Benji and now is the time to sort some things out. However, if the plan is to buy Cronk then there would be no reason to make changes unless Mary wants to see if the team can run better with Widdop at halfback

I agree and that's one of the reasons why some of our talented young players waiting in the wings move on....for example if I was waiting for my chance to play FG and the club decided to buy players and play them out of their normal positions I would think why the hell am I hanging around because it doesn't look like I will ever get to the front of the queue

We may already have the ideal situation right under our noses with just swapping Benji & Gareth. It is about the only thing Mary hasn't tried yet, why?
If it works & i don't see why not you then have Mann who is supposedly a 5/8 as back up for Benji when he moves on.If they are thinking of buying Coote(which i am not against) & playing him 5/8 which means moving Gareth anyway, FFS try it now which should bring out the best in Benji.Bottom line if they sign Coote it should only be to play fullback.

Agreed.

I have been banging on about this since we signed benji.

Gaz is more the organiser of the two and benji the X-factor type who needs space to show his skill so I'm baffled as well.

Just seems to make sense.

logically it does make sense for Widdop to be 7 and Barge Ass to be 6 given their styles of play and strengths/weaknesses, however given the modern game where basically one half controls the left side corridor of the field and one half controls the right side corridor of the field will swapping them around make much difference?
i think the overall problem is a lack of game plan and strategy so both players know when they should be calling the ball or controlling play.
they seem to simply get in each others way and are confused when they should take control rather than compliment each other..
