The Corey Norman scandal thread

Carney had already been sacked by 2 other clubs and he was not as good a player as Norman. Norman is the best half or 5/8 Parra has had in 30 years. We ought to make him captain.
Carney won Dally M. Norman will never win the Dally M. Making Norman captain would be the most Parramatta thing ever. It should not be about his performance but his leadership and the example he sets on and off the field.

I'm not saying the NRL should sack him or Parra sack him. I'm just saying if Parra is smart they go seperate ways and buy someone who is a real leader and not a 25 year old who acts 18.

Very curious to see what punishment the NRL comes up with. They have really painted themselves into a corner with the ridiculous Pearce suspension. If they're going to be consistent CN needs to get a year off.

Statement regarding Corey Norman
Parramatta Eels | July 13 2016 9:01PM

The Parramatta Eels have stood down Corey Norman from the club's Round 19 game against the Penrith Panthers on Sunday.

Corey today pleaded guilty in a Sydney court to one charge of drug possession and one charge of possessing a restricted substance.

In each matter, Corey has had a conviction recorded and been fined $400; he now has 28 days to lodge any appeal to the sentence.

The club will meet with the NRL this week to review the matter, before Corey meets with the Eels' disciplinary committee next week.

It will be a farce if he gets more for this than blokes have gotten for much worse violent crimes.

Possession of non performance enhancing drugs is much less bad than punching a woman.

Couldn't agree more, but two wrongs don't make a right.
He should sit out the rest of the year if the NRL are fair dinkum.

Mitchell Pearce got 8 weeks for having a video of him being drunk leaked. Norman just got a conviction recorded for drug possession... You'd think season over on precedent.

Pearces punishment was extremely over the top. I would certainly understand roosters fans being pissed off if norman doesnt get more time for actually committing a crime.

Me personally its only mdma that was for personal use. I wouldnt give a shit if he played this week.

Let's not down players the Pearce thing. He wasn't just drunk. He pissed on some woman's couch and then humped a dog. Not illegal but certainly more controversial than someone having a couple of pills on him.

This is nonsense. Should be sacked for .2 games and the croc from lake placid should be brought in to select which .2.

But if you combine the drug conviction with the sex tape is it still much less bad?

Individually they're much less bad, but together they may not be much less bad.

Interesting that the comparisons with Carney came up because Norman is putting together a series of incidents that may be much less bad than others, but like Carney they accumulate to no longer look much less bad than other things that look much less bad.

the femo moral squad were all up in the Pearce thing. Remember they said "it wasn't OK". Thats 6 weeks right there.
I haven't heard anything from the morals squad about this. Maybe Ive just stopped listening - which I have.

In this day and age what Norman was convicted of was like low range DUI and probably should be treated in the same manner. Although I get the feeling the NRL will demand a stronger stance. Okay like drink driving, players should steer well clear of drugs but there will be slip ups. Did Mary McGregor get suspended or stood down by the Dragons for drink driving!!!

Its like you read my mind and took the much less bad words out of my mouth. Its posters like us that take these complex issues like this & express them so precisely.......so succinctly.

So based on Souffs precedent then (Auva'a) Norman should get no punishment until after the GF?

Pretty much this if the incident was just someone "being caught with some pingers on them"

But it was a bit more than that - the people he was at Star City with and their links to organised crime show spectacular lapses of judgement on Norman's part

Plus the sex tape incident etc and you get the feeling that Norman isn't taking life very seriously at all and the NRL might give him a lengthy ban to try and pull him into line

I largely agree with your sentiment and I want to see him playing, but I get the feeling the NRL will take a dim view and will hit him with a lengthy suspension.
