JOSH DUGAN UNLEASHES ON DRAGONS

Are we offering only 700k because that is all we have left in the kitty to balance the books OR is it because Millward reckons he's only worth the 700k?

If Millward wants to pay more for another fullback than I would expect Duges to be dirty.
If it is because we simply can't offer more from a budget point of view, then at least we gave it our best shot.
If the latter is the real reason, then Duges should be made aware that is the case.
If the club signs a better full back and pays a million....good on them!! Duges is not that player. Does mccrone get the shits as the club signs a better half back for three times the money he is on? No he doesnt. Time to get rid of dugan....toxic.

With the cap rise, I believe we have around 1.7m left in our cap however, we still have to sign Dugan, Packer, Lafai, Milne and Mann. The reason Millward is holding at 800k is because at that point we will lose Milne and Mann only. Packer 500k and Lafai 400k sees us use up all our cap. These figures are estimates only mainly because contract prices, salary cap balances and TPAs are not published.

When the Dragons bought Duges it was his footballing ability that attracted the club's interest not his intellect nor his maturity. He has given his all and been consistently one of our best but sadly he has not been the attacking weapon he was at his peak at Canberra. On the positive side he has grown into a more mature adult over the past 4 years.

I think Josh would like to stay with the Dragons but is frustrated at not getting the money he wants and believes he deserves. Unfortunately this outburst shows his lack of intellect, a failure to grasp his true value and is a reversion to the immature ways of his youth.

Firstly hes hardly UNLEASHING on The Dragons hes simply stating he wants to stay hes played fullback all his life and sees himself that way...if it wasn't for Inglis, Boyd, Tedesco, Slater etc he probably would be The Aussie Fullback...I don't think Merrin for example was worth the coin he was wanting before he left bit different to this situation imo...theres talk of letting him go and concentrating on Mann, Milne etc....Dufty whilst I think hes a great talent theres a big different in where he is now to FG...as for Mann filling the fullback role hes got a long way to go before he can do what Dugan does...I know its a lot of coin but it would be a real mistake letting him walk...with him on board and Hunt coming we would have a spine that would carry us through for many years...ive said all along he will stay and this article doesn't change my mind.....if their short of coin let some of the board members start busking down at Circular Quay

Unless another club says otherwise by tabling Dugan an offer, his market price is the Dragons offer on the table. It is time to take the offer off the table and find another fullback.

So you would pay him a million and lose Packer , Mann & Lafai ?
Who said we would lose any or two or three of them because of the cap? who here has access to our salary cap? NO ONE.
Maybe Mann etc isnt part of what the club wants anyway regardless of money.
If they want him they can pay him.

I believe that young Josh needs to have a few words with a chap by the name of Dennis Tutty .

He would be one bloke who could explain to him , just how hard it was for a footballer to earn a dollar back in the 60's and my guess is that he would do so , without the need to bitch about it .

Nope.....do not pay dugan one million a year. Hayne yes. Slater yes. Boyd yes. James Roberts as a centre yes! Duges is not in my plans for a team on the rise. Thank god the club thinks the same.

Hunt for $1 million or Duggan, who's better value? Hunt for me?
Hunt without a doubt and the media's bullshitted about his contract value

Hunt will be on 800k a year with us, his contract value will go up as a percentage of the salary cap increases. So if the cap stays the way it is he will continue on 800k per year

Saints have offered 800k. So he wants more than 800k!! Sorry....no deal. Time to cut him loose....qld cup might sign him. Join marshall.

So if Saints sign him for 800k, and he plays fullback, as the coach has said he will, then what ? He is an elite player that has played SOO and for Australia.. You wanna take a punt on a few juniors that may or may not not come good ?

Club needs to put a time limit on the table. 10 days.

With respect, and yes i agree, this is not the point.

We are building a spine of some worth. Hunt / Gaz / McInness / Dugan. He is worth what the market determines. 850k i say he stays.

It does not matter where we play him. The club deems he is worth 800k a year as a player. As a
7.5 /10 fullback or 8/10 centre....he is worth 800k to the clubs thinking. If he was a 9/10 fullback he may command 1 mill a year. Or even if he was prince of all centres he might get a million. But he isnt. He is rated 7.5 to 8 as a player on the field.

Not according to all the decision makers... eg, coaches for the country and SOO. He is always picked in the squad. Be it FB or centre. Hey remember an immortal went to rake to make way for Kimmorley In SOO... Yes A Johns. Its where a player best fits a squad. At SOO level he is a centre, at club level he is a FB. Hope is we lose him Dufty and co. can match his impact, both offensively or defensively.May happen, but not yet... Untested ..

I'd be offering him a 1 year deal for $850-900K. We can't let Dugan walk and expect to win the comp in 2018. It also enables the Club to put a realistic back-ended deal for Mann, as he approaches his peak years, & gives us a shot at retaining Lafai. I can't see us retaining Packer as well.
