20 players......the rest - meh. Even some of the 20 are questionable.
We're in a terrible position thanks to some terrible recruitment. And no, excuses are not valid. People move city/state/country all the time for opportunity and/or more money. It might be harder to get certain recruits (and impossible in some cases), but by no means does that excuse a 2 man 'in' list - and a 1 man 'in' list last year. Stop obsessing over the big names and start building a f***ing squad.
Ideally... (recruits in bold - recruits I've 'made', rather than Harris/Pulu)
1. RTS
2. Fusitua
3. Ayshford
4.
Jeremy Hawkins
5. Maumalo (only because I can't parachute the ISP wingers straight in and I want CNK at centre)
6. Hingano (VERY tempted to go after Darren Nicholls and put him here, Ata to ISP)
7. SJ
8. Gavet
9. Roache
10.
Jeremy Latimore
11. Pulu
12. Harris
13. Mannering
14. Luke (unless we can move his contract, Manaia probably takes this spot anyway, Luke > ISP)
15. Vete
16. Lisone (one more year, with clear instructions that he's a prop not a half - Satae to replace otherwise)
17. Tevaga
ISP
1. Santo
2.
Johnny Tuivasa-Sheck
3. CNK
4. Fotu/Pauga (Pauga is only a NRL prospect at wing I think, but competes here until a spot opens)
5.
Ratu Tuisese
6. Cook (moves to bench/utility if Nicholls comes into NRL pushing Ata down)
7. Lino
8.
Abraham Papalii (kind of a recruit.. legitimate NRL potential here, make him play big minutes)
9. Cherrington
10. Satae
11. Afoa (I want to see him given more time to develop here, I don't think he'll make it as a middle)
12. Ogden (wishful thinking that he was staying, Papalii if not - or bring back Niukore?)
13.
Nick Brown
14. Bell
15. P.Sipley
16. D.Palavi
17. Sao
The four recruits in ISP are development options in areas where we are weak. The two in the NRL team are immediate first team guys.
Latimore is quality, nothing flashy but gets his work done and can pump out 40-45 good minutes - first grade hardened.
Hawkins is the best centre not in the NRL right now.
JTS is a hard worker on the field, hasn't had the best of years though despite playing on the wing for the top team in the ISP - but he has potential, and might help keep one of our decent players around.
Tuisese is a guy I've admired for a while. Has been playing Ron Massey cup for much of the season because Penrith are so ridiculously stacked, but played well when in ISP (and has scored a bucketload in RM). Genuine winger, can work early in sets if needed but so much more. Can break tackles, score tries and defend.
Brown is a workhorse. I'd put Josh Kerr (Dragons ISP, graduated Storm NYC in 2016) if I thought we had a chance of getting him, but he's on contract and the Dragons football department don't seem dumb enough to let him go (worth a try though). Kerr is special, but Brown is pretty good too.
Abraham Papalii could be a plug and play replacement for the brutal prop prospect we never should have lost... Tof Sipley.
