Rather Cody at 6 with GI outside him on the left.
Cody can take the line on and pass so that would be a threat to opposition Defence...
Agreed. Cody has some areas he could improve on (providing direction, long kicking game etc) but his ability to take the line on and turn half chances into chances for himself and those around him is nothing short of world class...and his stats back that up.

He and Inglis on the left fringe of the ruck could be the most lethal attacking combination in the comp

Depends.

How much our offer is and what he's asking and whether or not the young kids step up and take a centre position.

Could have a solid centres pairing by round 26. Similar to auava and d walker

Hard to say with way market is..
Could cop $500k.
End of day rather get RTS & Kaufusi and try a younger 6 than miss out
Agreed, I was going to say around the 400/500k mark.

We have some good young halves in our system, so we can't really justify spending more than that

South Sydney are close to pulling off a remarkable about-face from star five eighth Cody Walker, who threatened to quit the club midway through last year over a pay dispute.

7th Tackle understands Walker is on the verge of agreeing to a two-year extension with the Rabbitohs -- just nine months after requesting a release.

Walker’s management clashed with Souths midway through last season after a request for a contract upgrade fell on deaf ears. The Bunnies defied the Broncos' interest to re-sign Walker in 2016, but his form over the ensuing 12 months quickly out-stripped the relatively modest contract.Despite being moved to fullback for extended periods last season, the 28-year-old still managed to rank second for try assists in the NRL.

But Souths bosses stuck to their guns, adamant the club did not have enough cap space.

Cody Walker (L). Pic: GettyWalker retaliated by requesting a release, which was denied. He then declined to take up an option on his contract for 2019, leaving him as a free agent after this year. Most expected him to leave, with Cronulla showing considerable interest at one stage, but the appointment of new coach Anthony Seibold appears to have doubled as an unexpected ice-breaker.

In the past three months Seibold has committed to Walker as his first-choice five-eighth, sending him to South Australia for kicking clinics with AFL club Port Adelaide and arranging specialist coaching with halves mentor Matty Johns.

FULL STORY: Johns recruited to join Redfern revolutionGreg Inglis’s expected move to Walker’s left edge has also increased his desire to remain at Redfern. The Rabbitohs skipper is in the final stages of his comeback from an ACL, a serious injury that’s tipped to see him revert from fullback to the centres.

I think best situation is that we move him to centre to prolong his career. GI is a game changer and when fit is easily worth 1 million. He carried us to our 2014 premiership. That being said the amount of work a fullback does off the ball almost makes the position twice the work. Even on one leg he’s still one of the best players in the game.

I really felt like AJ was coming into his own near the end of the the season. A spine of AJ, Walker, Reynolds and Cook Is absolutely deadly and has speed to burn. Having Gagai outside of Reynolds and GI outside of Walker makes it even deadlier. GI’s presence on the field is massive. All the players respect him and the younger players look up to him. We’re paying him a million big ones. We may as well be practical and get the best out of the last part of his career whilst looking to the future. We should also ask him to step down from rep footy. It’s probably never going to happen but 3 extra games a year on his body is just asking for trouble.
Great post bro and I honestly could not agree more.

I don't know if anyone else has mentioned but i was told today that Hiroti is in the mix to play centre come round one.
Well, it wouldn't suprise me. He's a young lad from the mighty Naki so he'll be a gun haha

I’m not saying we’re getting value for money but it makes much more sense to prolong his career in the centres than to have him play 1 game at fullback, destroy his knee and sit out the season. Because ultimately you’re wasting your money even more then.

You’re also forgetting Josh Dugan is getting a ridiculous pay check next season to potentially play in the centres. Jack Bird is earning around 1 mil a season in the centres. Good centres are hard to come by and we have 2 of the best in the competition.

This whole value according to position thing is complete garbage. Townsend and Maloney were on relatively small contracts when the Sharks won the competition. Keary and Arey were on peanuts when we won the competition.

Everyone thinks the storm way is the only way but Cronk, Smith and Slater are amongst some of the best players to ever play this game. Paying the majority of your cap to your spine doesn’t always work. A prime example is the warriors. They have one of best spines in the comp but suck. Basing a teams season on the way a salary cap is distributed is not fair at all.

I also do find it funny that Crichton is worth a million a season yet GI a proven player on every level isn’t.
Dude, you're on fire today!

Nope. He's only mentioning Hiroti as a chance to play at some stage this season.
I was told by a lad that i work with who claims his mate used to be in the SG ball setup at the club and still has connections with some of the players.
I'm not claiming it as fact, I'm just passing on what I've heard. It is a rumours thread after all.
Cheers for the info Trav, keep us posted if you hear anymore. I know I've said this before and we've already had with Issac Luke but boy, it'd be so awesome to see another guy from my hometown/province play for the mighty Red and Green!

Great to hear about Cody. He's quickly becoming one of my favs and my mouth is just watering at the thought of him and GI on that left edge if it ever does happen.

There's no doubt that he deserves an upgrade and this is a really positive sign for the club and Seibs moving forward. Cody obviously was not happy with Madge and the way the club was going but Seibold has come in and turned it around, this just proves that as Cody now wants to stay.

Talk on another forum of a 2 year extension for Cody.
Wow Southy wouldn't that be a coup mate.....

We could be yet to see the best of him....

Hopefully Adam thrives as well and gets back to his precision kicking game and strong passing game.. I don't expect Adam to run the ball that much due to it causing a much greater injury risk but that's fine by me if he's firing on those other assets...

You're on fire tonight mate...;

Mind you don't forget AJ should thrive at the back off all this and improve his link up play......

With Cook at hooker having free reign too with his sharpness I'm so excited....; for what Cook brings I can love with some missed tackles here and there.... after all look at Api...... worst defensive hooker in the comp for 2017 but as of what else he brings to the table he isn't criticised much...

What do you think we will give him for 2019 & 20?????

I'd say around 450-500k...........

:joy: Look at it try to suck up :joy:

With Crichton leaving, Walker was surely our next biggest priority. Keeping our 6/7/9 of Walker/Reynolds/Cook for the next few years should definitely be our priority
