Is Clark even in our best 17? When Sam comes back where does that leave Clark?

Assuming everyone’s fit. Our best forward rotation is

8. Surgess
9. Cook
10. Turgess
11. Sutton
12. Crichton
13. Murray

14. Doueihi
15. Gurgess
16. Tatola
17. Nicholls

It’s a very tough decision for Richo but I don’t think Clark will agree to being resigned on reserve grade money. A really solid backup player to have but will he be content with this? We also have turner waiting for his chance to crack the top grade again. Then there’s players like Johnstone and Rodwell who will definitely be pushing.

We will be losing 2 back-rowers for 2019 (maybe 3 if Fui doesn't sign) so Clark could come in very handy and he would be relatively cheap.

How often is no one unavailable though?

I don’t think anyone in our forward pack is neccessarily injury prone though. Which then begs the question if really want to pay anything above minimum wage for our 18th man?

We still need to sign a replacement for Angus, plus resign Fui, Tatola, Nicholls. If he wants to take minimum wage then throw him a contract but do we really think he can support a family in Sydney on such small money? I think he’ll be looking for a decent amount to stay.

Right. So we promote him to the starting side and play him on an edge? Clark’s best position is lock and we already have a couple of forwards in the top 17 that can cover that position.

I think it’s great Souths fans are trying to rally together to get him resigned, but I definitely don’t think he’s our solution to replacing Angus and Sutton. Here’s a scenario for you Southsport. What if we give Clark 300k. (100k is the minimum wage) But because of that we miss out on signing a forward like Papalli because another club offered 100k more than us. It’s obviously unlikely but when you’re trying to fit a team under a salary cap, every dollar counts. I just don’t see why resigning Clark is such a big deal. Btw next year Greg Inglis will have been at the club for 8 years. Long service allowance will be able to cover a chunk of his salary so resigning Clark isn’t exactly covered by that either.

We may not be able to sign the players we want and we still need back-up players so Clarky fits the criteria perfectly imo.

I really doubt Clarky would be in anything near 300k.

I doubt he'd be on half of that.

Either way, I think we're just going to have to trust the clubs desison on this one. They know far better than us where the team is headed in the future and the kind of roster we want. I trust they'll make the right call.

Souths should stick by their decision to not re-sign Clark. He is not in the top 17 for Souths for starters

Clubs need to be wary of signing players who lift their games when it is time to sign a new contract. Instead you want to sign players whose standard of play is high all the time so that there is no doubt about re-signing them

But he is inside our top 30, and over a brutal 25 round season the quality of your 18-30 can become the difference between playing September footy or not. It’s hard to find a Jason Clarke, a player prepared to put the hard yards in with reserve grade without getting all “Hastings”, then when called up put in 100%, all because he actually loves playing for the Club. When we let him go we won’t be saving anything on our cap, we will have to replace him with exactly the same money bracket player and I don’t think you’ll get the same effort or attitude.

But you definitely can’t know this for sure. We’re all assuming Clark is on minimum wage but why would a grand finalist player accept minimum wage? Even if he’s on 200k then that’s still an extra 100k that could be going to extending a player like Murray or Cook. These are players which should be our first priority and unfortunately players like Clark are really only a convenience. I trust that the club know what their doing and will be using that money to scout more young players who are desperate to crack first grade.

The only end of year off contract players worth saving are, Probably Tyrell Fuimaono, Hymel Hunt, Robert Jennings, Mark Nicholls, Junior Tatola, and Connor Tracey. I can’t see Clarky’s contract affecting any of those, if it does we are in real cap trouble, as none of them deserve overs. Any contract extensions from 2020 on, like Murray or Cook are not affected by what we pay Clark in 2019. One thing I do agree with is it’s not a decision a forum thread or even a petition will influence and we should leave it the guys with all the information. I’m not going to have a hissy fit if we don’t resign him.

At least we agree on who we should resign :joy: well I was more referring to the fact that it might come down to that extra 100k when we hit the player market. Maybe we stretch our cap down to the last 1k and because of that the following year we have to let a player like Cook go. I think we’re planning to use every single free dollar for 2019 and that’s why clark was told he could look for a better opportunity. If it was a matter of minimum wage then I’m sure they would’ve given it to him as they need to fill up the squad of 30 anyway.

The Jaydn Su'a rumour is everywhere at the moment.

Shit I hope it's true. Kid is going to be a star

Im a big fan of Su’a as well. Won’t break the bank and will do the job well. Also mole is reporting that we’re looking at bringing Gosiewski back to Redfern. I like this move. Was kind of silly to let him go in the first place but his record with injuries was terrible.

He would be on more than the minimum wage since after the GF.

About 250 I'd say.

We need to keep him!

You need experience too not just youngsters and we are losing Sutto!
