geez this looks ordinary by us, if it happens, huge expectations need to be placed on Ivan & Gus - a grand final appearance at minimum IMO....

we have the squad, we obviously want Cleary as the coach, there's no excuses they can make.....(we've performed with an injury crisis this year, so we obviously have the lower grade talent to fill in & do a job if required).

failure to meet expectations in their tenure and both need to be shown the door, and there should be clauses in both of Gus/Ivan's employment contracts that the club does not have to pay them out if they are fired/terminated.

this is a massive gamble for the club for little gain, no doubt Ivan can coach, but he's made 1 GF & 1 PF appearance as a coach this decade, solid but nothing worth all this effort (not to mention poor reputation the club will now cop within RL circles).

if we win a comp - its a genius move, but there's 15 other clubs fighting for the same thing..... not to mention all the "Father/Son favouritism within the club" stories that will arise if we aren't performing to expectations...

If ivan is gonna sign from 2021 onwards i expect the tigers to let him go now not worth keeping a coach who is going in a yr or 2 time its better for both clubs if they part ways and we get ivan and tigers sign mcguire

It appears that Bryce Cartwright and his supporters still harbour unwarranted angst at his departure from Penrith in the pre-season. His partner posted on social media last week saying that Cartwright had been “discarded” by the club. A huge call, given Penrith went above and beyond in their efforts to keep the wayward Cartwright – whose first grade career is in tatters – on the right track.

I don't think Bryce is coming back anytime soon.

Seems like this the play they are trying. They approve for 2019 Cam to make it seem like they are only chasing Ivan for 2021....lol its ballsy considering the shitstorm they just went through. Not great management but if it improves our results next season I don't care.

A lot of people looking short term here.

Club obviously sees Nathan as long term player to build around and more important than Ivan (view shared by most clubs as they all appear to believe hiring Ivan will secure Nathan).

If it works, we have a successful era based on Ivan & Nathan (at least as far as the media will be concerned).

If it doesn't work, club can tell Nathan it's been tried and didn't work and negotiate future terms without the father/son thing. By 2022, club re-evaluates Nathan as player in his own right for contract beyond 2023.

All bargaining power is with the club, the risk is on Ivan and Nathan to make it work.

The last line might be true but the club still suffers if they cant make it work, it could be horrific for the club tbh. The father coaching son thing is the only thing that worries me about Ivan being our coach. I don't give two shits about the tigers or how we make it happen.

The only problem is if it fails and Nathan doesn't like the way the club treats his Father (Gould has already shafted him once) Nathan could get the shits and leave.

If it fails though that's probably not a bad thing for Nathan to leave, Failing means losing and Nathan as our star halfback will be a big part of us losing, if that is what happens.

Or Nathan might look at alternative roles within the team if we have another promising young half coming through. In that scenario, Nathan may move to 6 or 9 to play a senior mentor role.

Do you think this whole father and son thing will affect the playing group?

How do you remain objective all the time?

Probably would have been harder to tel Nathan that his dads an average coach
