I don't really agree with this at all to be honest. Since when is 6 days a short turnaround? The team with the "short turnaround" will get a chance at a longer turnaround for the grand final which is probably a risk many would be willing to take on I'd think.

Plus the minor premiers should have the shot at the longer lead in to the grand final if they win in week 1, instead we cater to a team that lost in week 1.

6 days allows only one decent training session during the week. the rest of the week would be a heap of facebook messaging.

i don't disagree with you re minor premier as a week 1 winner, but there isn't much of a difference between 8 or 9 days leading into an NRL GF as both teams can get in a couple of decent prep sessions excluding the captains run. It's definitely not the disadvantage that 6-day lead in provides. it's a prelim final - giving one team 8 days and another 6 days just to avoid an AFL match is shit and amateur scheduling.

Why are people so obsessed with the AFL? We are not going to beat their crowds any time soon so
we should just be concerned with our game and try to make it bigger and better.
It would help if the stupid NRL didnt schedule matches against the AFL finals in Melbourne for starters Why wasnt the Storm match on Saturday?.

You have to remember that you can't compare us to the AFL. we only play in the same cities, at the same time of year, in the same timeslots, with almost identical coverage on TV, with about the same level of history the AFL have and with about the same priced tickets.

But you need to remember that our comps totally can't be compared.

Except league has been battling a war for 100+ years against another code in all its heartlands. The AFL has had smooth sailing for 150 years in all its heartlands.

People dismissing the AFL crowds are awfully close minded. Whilst yes there are these factors why the two should be compared, and those other factors why they shouldn't be compared - but the product of Rugby League is complemented in front of a full house.

The reason everyone remembers the Bulldogs v Eels Preliminary Final is because of the ridiculous crowd it got.

A giant crowd does not mean that the on field action is suddenly the best thing ever (see the AFL) but it does build excitement and hype towards the match.

Tonight will be the 4th 90K plus crowd in this years AFL finals so let's not pretend only those clubs can draw a big crowd.

You've kind of pointed out one of the big problems for league one sydney vs AFL in Melbourne. Pick any 2 AFL teams in Melbourne and they could probably pull 80K plus in a finals match.

In the NRL there are only a few teams that can draw a big crowd like that. That's why you need to pick out that one specific matchup. We need some of the other Sydney teams to play a bit of catch-up.

Crowds are a single metric. TV has been the single most important metric in world sport since at least the mid 90s.

AFL 80M TV viewers + let's say 7 million at the gate.

RL 105M TV viewers + say 4M at the gate.

There are certainly things that are worth looking at with regards to both codes, but I don't see any worth or value in the constant comparison. It's not instructive, helpful and doesn't do either code any good in the long term.
