It was only 'conditionally awarded' because Moore Sports sort it out. The only way it could be resolved is if there is another party willing to take over the bid which there doesn't appear to be. The USARL most certainly aren't equipped to do so. Simply put their isn't the necessary base available for it. Hell, there are more AFL teams in the States (37) than there are RL teams (16).

The odds of this actually happening were always very low. There's nowhere near enough RL interest in the States to have made it viable and Moore Sports were always looking to use this to launch a league concept of the back of it in 2029. Something they tried first with Rugby but failed and Rugby has a much greater reach comparatively to that of League in the US.
No one gives a rats about your constant references to rah rah.

Previous dozen iterations? Are you talking about the Rugby Super League? Because that was never professional. That's the only nationwide league I'm aware of. The are regional leagues like the Pacific Rugby Premiership, Atlantic Rugby Premiership, Red River Rugby Conference and the Mid-West D1. But they are all amateur leagues. Though I do know the PRP are looking to establish themselves as firmly semi-pro in the next few years.

This is the 2nd attempt that actually pays players. The 1st failed because of the model (owned by one bloke)and the clash of ego's. This one is a different structure and anyone wanting to enter the league has to provide verified finances capable of sustaining operations at a minimal level for a period of 5 years. This includes playing an annual bond to the league in order to cover operational costs such as player salaries, travel and accommodation etc.

The 9 that will play in the 2nd season stating in late January and the three others that will join them in 2020 have all met those criteria.

So, perhaps it will fail. Though the games averaged 250k last season on TV at a 50:1 viewership ratio which is well above the average for most start up leagues in the States over the past 25 years including the MLS so things are looking good so far. But, if it fails (and you'll say something you think is smart that it will) it likely wouldn't be for a few years yet. And at least Rugby is at a point in North America where it can begin to actually try this kind of thing. League is still struggling to maintain a handful of active teams nationwide. So, from a Rugby perspective. If MLR doesn't make the jump then all we can hope for is the next iteration learns from the experience and moves forward once again.

And please don't mention the Wolfpack. While I do applaud their marketing efforts we all know that being actually based in England they are more a Fly In/Fly Out team with Toronto branding and not actually a representation of League in Nth America.

Regarding what exactly? The supposed dozen previous failed professional Rugby attempts in the US or the fact that the Wolfpack are based in the UK.

The Toronto Wolfpack show that rugby league can harness popular support despite having little base support in schools etc. It's quite a remarkable achievement for this little known and underrated code of football in northern America.

It helps when you give away a bunch of tickets.

Lol. They turn up and enjoy your tool! It's a goodfeel sports story you troll! Get back to trying on those tweed jackets.

Do you actually know any people who have attended their home games because I do. They have enjoyed their experience and would call themselves Wolfpack fans but have been quite open about the generous ticketing situation.

Fine. Rugby league is being exposed and becoming popular in Canada. Good!

Union is the biggest piece of shit sport on the planet and it is ran by the biggest dickheads on the planet. The biggest asshole in rugby league is still a better person than charity fundraising Union players.

Well I'm with you then Eroticgamer. Just don't shoot one of the messengers! The shit is going on . If rugby league does not identify where the actual issues are coming from then it will basically go nowhere which is what's happening. Rugby league deserves better as a pure sport. It's being poorly served by many of its administrators . This is on top of negative external pressures(mostly from a powerful rival code) that are not spoken of enough and articulated on mainstream discourse
