Dumb execution.

You can't sum up or garner intrigue in our game from a still image. People need to see the game in action.

Dude, they get called the Super Bowl champions....'by everybody. I am not saying they dont claim the world champion status but it is massively overstated right here as a thing.

Mate I follow a lot of sports, and they have been using the Wold Champions moniker for decades -

Baseball call it the world series! I think its fair to say, that like calling the Roosters world champions, it is a way to make a sport with no real international competition feel important. The Americans in particular love to do that whilst the rest of the world laughs at them. Bless.

IN defense of each of the american sports they do have a massive world wide audience and they are undeniably the best teams in the world if they win those championships (Superbowl, World Series, NBA finals) and in the case of baseball and basketball they are both well participated sports world wide.

They are also domestic competitions and ergo can hardly lay claim to be a world champion with any great value.
So we have established:
Roosters are not world champions
Americans have no idea who the Roosters or NRL are and still dont
our world champions title is barely a rooster feather above Americans claims to be world champions
the only people talking about it are on RL message boards

Well worth the expense and effort.

That makes no sense.

If it's targeting us or league fans it would have been a lot more effective placing that in Sydney or even in the UK, in Wigan territory where it would have at least made a whole bunch of Wiganers mad before the game.

The amount of publicity it actually generated pales in comparison to what it would have produced in a more relevant area. Four tweets is a testament to that. Imagine how many tweets it would have gotten placed in the UK.
it has no context in Sydney and therefore wouldn't get the free media it has. Its just a cheap marketing gimmick that exploits the once a year super bowl interest to remind people in Australia that the NRL season is kicking off soon. It's probably paid for itself tenfold in free exposure, from newspapers, websites, social media, radio & TV. All for the cost of a few billboards in America that nobody even has to see!

The fact that we ARE talking about it shows it probably was worth the expense...

Agreed. Billboards have got to get the internets outraged.
Parra should pay for a billboard in Penriths main street telling their fans they are hillbillies and are not welcome at Western Sydney Stadium for Parra v Penrith.
I know this is a joke but everyone in the state did pay for it. You do a good job of explaining the opposition to these things though.

Just for clarity, the NBA and MLB include Canadian teams so, technically, they’re not just domestic USA competitions.
