From what I've read Parry seems a good prospect, Dunster less so, although would have to be better than Gennings tho. Fainga'a has received some good reviews but not much about Stefino who was a bench player for JF I think when I read team lists. Fainga'a could replace Niukore in SR and he is much more skilful than him.

Cade Cust could replace Moses if we don't re-sign him but that puts 3 youngsters in our spine which already is probably the most inexperienced of any team in the NRL. Still like the thought of Scott Drinkwater at fullback and Gutho to centre along with Parry or whoever. Mennings to go or stay at much reduced contract for 1 year.
Another quality Glenneel review

Yeah forgot about that. I’d maybe have Tep competing for that last spot with Evans and Alvaro. He’d have to be content to be on a wage that reflects his position in the squad though, as an option but not automatic selection.
Hopefully Alvaro is not re-signed and Mannah only as 18th man. Is Tevita Tatola South's current front rower? If so worth a try and more consistent than TPJ who would still be good but not confident BA could bring the best out of him.

From what I have seen of Salesi he plays a little soft compared to Marata

Sure he has more skill but his acceleration and movement isn't that explosive. Unsure if he is NRL material tbh.

So from that whole list you are only thinking we need to buy a rookie halfback from Manly who has played like 2 games?

Given that all of us as well as the club, has identified we need a forward leader, I am sure we will make a big play for Christian Welch if he is still available. His name was talked about 12 months ago but I am not sure if he re-signed for one year only or was already under contract for 2019.

Why should it?

Ma'u did time in jail, came out a better and remorseful man and does a lot of things off the field

Lodge refused to even see a counselor

Mau has had more time to mature, I'm sure with time and perspective lodge will grow into a better person. Well I hope anyways.

So based on the NRL release of contract information for all clubs a couple of weeks ago (and yes, there may have been some changes since then), if you were in charge of recruitment at the Eels, who would you be targeting for 2020 and beyond?

I don't see a hell of a lot of quality in that list that would be too much better than what we have in our current squad, although based on wanting to strengthen our pack, I would probably make a play for Tevita Pangai Jr, Christian Welch and Tevita Tatola in that order. Not sure there are too many outside backs that improve us more than what we have, especially with Parry and possibly Dunster coming through next year.

Wow...what an average list...

I'd maybe ask about:

Tevita Pangai Jnr
Kenny Bromwich
Jordan Rapana
Zane Tetevano

The rest...meh.

Mat Lodge can FOAD.

If we signed that piece of excrement I'd have a very hard time supporting the side with him in it tbh

Me, too.

Very good player, but a piece of garbage.

And he has not shown any remorse, or at least very little.

Parra - don't you f**king dare sign this piece of shit human.

Manu Mau in the side doesn't bother you?

Ma'u has on numerous occasions expressed remorse, and he also goes the extra mile to help his community.

Every Sunday, he is out giving talks to troubled youths about how to deal when times are tough.

When was the last time Lodge did anything like that?

f**k him.

That's certainly possible, and I hope - for Lodge's sake - that it is true.

We are all human - we all make mistakes.

But once you make a mistake, you need to own up to it and admit you made a mistake.

Lodge "admitted" he made an error in a tv interview that was so contrived, it was nothing short of scripted for him.how can he show contrition and remorse in such a case?

Players under contract will be available....
On Lodge I reckon he shows genuine remorse.

I think that if we were to target Lodge, he would need to genuinely show remorse; we are trying to change the culture of the club, and people who are not contrite don't really fit that.

Is it Lodges fault or his parents for raising a child to behave this way?

Bit of both, but his parents definitely need to shoulder some major responsibility.

Having said that, Lodge is an adult, and should take responsibility for his actions.

I reckon kenny bromwich might have a bit of mongrel leader in him .... but he is a merkin storm player, so: a) he wouldnt leave for no on the side extras, b) i hate storm players

What about the bastion of all that is good and holy, the Australian, and Queensland captain, and future Immortal, Mr. Cameron Smith?

Great post

I have to admit I haven't really looked into the whole lodge thing. Anything outside of the eels doesn't interest me as much.

If he did sign with the Club you'd wanna see a firm commitment to paying back the victim, community work etc

If he isn't prepared to do that then sign someone else.

Is Welch really a leader though? What our big issue to me seems in-game leadership, especially in shit games. Not just a guy who will make a tough run up middle, but more importantly one who will get others working off the ball to stop our runners getting smashed. I’d say Kromwich would offer this more so. But the issue, especially with him, is to get them doing it after changing clubs
