Yep and from what Herbert said we will have massive $$$ free.
Why should we have big dollars? We have upgraded how many Juniors - To'o, Crichton, Naden, Martin, Leinu, Kenny (and Burns?) and only released part of the salary for Blake and DWZ. Maloney is gone, but if we were a Million over (Which I don't believe) then Maloney's departure only frees up 100k. RCG hasn't left yet.

Obviously dependant on RCG going as well. I'm just struggling to see how we'd be so far in dept to release so much cap and still not have enough for one good signing.

All those guys would be on very low contracts, they got upgraded from outside the top 30.

Next year we probably only have 3 guys on big money

Cleary
Tamou
Kikau

(Assuming RCG is gone)

a few more on medium money

Yeo
Mansour
Whare
Edwards
JFH
Leota

the rest would be on below average contracts I think

Someone like Naden was outside the top 30, he would’ve been earning match payments basically. I’d be surprised if he’s only more than 150-175k

That would’ve tripled his salary.

How much say did the WT board have though? I struggle to blame coaches for these things

I don’t know, but I easily could see how Cleary would’ve been given almost total control. They were desperate for experience, Pascoe is mates with Cleary. Can’t be a coincidence he signs all his ex warrior players.

Korosiau looks to be off to the Dogs. One of the things I never understand about those who handwave away the shitty way we handled taking Cleary back from the Tigers with "Who cares if other fans hate us?" is that they seem to forget that players also pay attention to shit like that, and it will definitely have an effect on our recruitment, even if it means having to pay a bit more to convince someone to come here.

Plus, Cleary being in charge of player recruitment scares the shit out of me. Hopefully the juniors just keep on coming and he lucks into some great players, so we don't get him going all Reynolds, Matulino. Packer on us (though some on here want Reynolds here as a hooker, and for them I suggest putting down the crack pipe).

Didn't a few clubs chase Packer? I have no doubt he wanted them but I would think he wouldn't know it will cost overs to get them.

That is where the board should step in and say we can't afford x player. Lets go for plan B like with Des at the Dogs. I put that on those higher up as I put our cap mess on Gus

You would think every coach wants every player in their squad but no coach can afford every player they want

Yeah that's true just what was reported that he basically got what he wanted. He was given supreme power and trust which is partly why it was so bad when he left.

Add Burton to that list of signings. Get used to the juniorts playing for some time...;

So if RCG goes, let’s recap the money situation

Maloney $800k
DWZ $500-600k
Blake $500
RCG $800k

Yes, these are just approximates based on reports. But I’d say these numbers are close enough.

Then you also have Tamou off contract at the end of 2020.

Even if we were over the cap for next year, there’d still have to be a decent amount of salary cap to spend. Somewhere in the range of $2m I’d say.

Who the hell are they going to spend this money on? There’s enough for 2-3 pretty good signings.

Im telling you know, sharks are going to be in a lot of trouble next year for over spending on their cap, they'll have to sell off their top players, not johnson, dugan, woods or moylan, coz even if they tried not many clubs will bite, but guys like morris, or my pic graham
Prior is already been shopped,
Parra looks like they've got him
But if im Penrith, i'd be paying overs to get Wade Graham back possibly as captain, and get experience over a guy like milkshakes (ponga).
We have a relatively young side, we need some 150+ gamers, i wouldn't want some more "young talent"
We need the scotty sattler of 2020

I totally agree the Panthers handled the whole hiring Cleary process badly, but I don't think it will have much of an impact on the club from signing new players. There are too many examples of clubs handling things badly for the Cleary incident to have much of an impact on player decisions. If it did, no players would sign with half the teams in the NRL.

Look at the way the Dogs sacked Hasler after only just resigning him, then refusing to pay out his contract. It looks worse than the Panthers, at least Hook was paid out his contract. Then there was the Manly/Barrett battle, the media circus of Bennett and Brisbane before Brisbane ended up terminating him via a voice message on his phone, all the Cronulla breaches and finally Flanagan being de-registered from the NRL, Newcastle and Brown and now the senior players even copping blame in the media.

And that's just some of the coach incidents, let alone all the player contract incidents that are continually ongoing.
