And we saved 50 out of two thousand millions, what a f**king joke.

This is probably the first intelegent article I have seen...

It is not the fault of any single group, it is everyones fault collectively. The CLubs wanted more and more and more and the ARLC wasnt strong enough to stand up and say no.

"The recession RL had to have" is a good way to put it. This is the shock we need.

if we survive it

AFL are absolutely kicking NRL's ass when it comes to management. Always have and always will. NRL moving the whole comp to Gladstone???? Please!
NRL continue to twist things to suit their agenda. The tide of public support is increasingly growing by the day against the NRL. Im incredibly disappointed by the management of our code.

Yes, their agenda as you put it, is to save the game.

you may not give a shit about it but many do

Just watching Fox Sports News.

They just said the AFL is in negotiations with NAB for a $250m loan borrowed against their assets so that their 18 clubs stay afloat over the next six months.

Given the NRL was knocked back for a $30m loan a few years ago, this doesn’t fill me with confidence that all 16 of us are going to make it.

If the NRL manage to keep the comp going while the AFL suspend theirs and thus keep the sport alive and thousands employed and maintain some normality during this corona period how is that bad management ?

Or is it the case that you just dont give a f*ck about this sport (as you said elsewhere) and enjoy taking cheap shots at it like Peter Fitzbandaid head.

We it does not appear to be an NRL thing at all.

The hospitality industry as a whole is in the same fragile boat.

An AFL shill. And a pretty shrill shill at that, with the NRL looking likely to have product on display next weekend and AFL not.

It seems to me the NRL have been thinking about this and planning for expected developments for quite some weeks, whereas the AFL played round 1 only because NRL were still going, and had no contingencies in place for the lockdown that we've all seen coming.

and what contingincies do the NRL have in place exactly?

Two quotes from that article are:

"NRL CEO Todd Greenberg says the Federal Government and its state counterparts have encouraged the game's powerbrokers to keep the 2020 competition going as long as possible"

" Speaking to Triple M on Monday morning, Greenberg acknowledged negative feedback in keeping the NRL going as the rest of the country goes into shutdown. The NRL has long been cognisant of the competition being put on hold at some point in 2020, but is vowing to carry on with government support at this point. Our circumstances are a little different to the AFL, although in saying that we are going to take advice today from both federal and state government, and obviously our health experts, Greenberg said ahead of another Commission meeting on Monday. And if we can continue to play which is what our desire has been all along, then we will continue to do so. We have been encouraged by both governments – state and federal – to keep going. In times of great difficulty, particularly for communities, one of the last pieces that they can hold onto is live sport and having some interaction over the weekend, and there’s not much left, to be frank, at this point in time. So if we can keep our game alive then I think that has a variety of positives in it."

NRL can only go on until:
- Play as usual until states on the eastern seaboard don't lock the borders
or,
- The entire NRL moves to the place near Gladstone and plays it out like the magic weekend

The only real solution is option 2 but they have to do it this week. The longer NRL leave it, the cases of COVID-19 go up, states get closer to lockdown and chances of players or mployees getting infected goes up.

In fact, I highly doubt that no NRL employees are as yet, COVID-19 positive.

For those who criticise Smith's salary and use of consultants and private hire cars you might like to know that last year Greenberg spent nearly$5million more on administration than Smith did in 2013!

As for your second question the NRL has had $2.69billion in the last 7 years in revenue!

Many clubs have significant LC assets they can borrow against or sell off. Its the clubs without who rely on owners putting in that are at greatest risk.

You"ve been listening to News Ltd journos again. Shit management? Dave Smith was a very good manager he guided the NRL through the drugs scandal perfectly, look at the mess the AFL made of it. He knew streaming was the future of sport broadcasting which it is. He was so good and threatening to News Ltd and the dysfunctional clubs that they drove him out of the game.

Because the AFL have suspended their season and NRL will continue theirs, watch the media absolutely hammer the NRL. Not because it's a poor decision by the NRL, but because the NRL is supposed to follow the lead of the AFL at all times.

There’s a lot more to administration than handling one scandal.
