A good brand resonates with its intended base.
St George Dragons works because St George slayed the Dragon and the club was created when most Australians were of British descent.
North Queensland Cowboys works because agriculture is the region's main industry and stockmen tame horses, which tied in nicely with a club coming in 7 years after the Broncos established themselves as the state's representatives in the Sydney competition.
Broncos isn't the best name, but it does offer alliteration. Barry Maranta was a fan of Denver Broncos.
Titans has little to no relevance to Gold Coast. The representative team were called the Vikings and the Tweed Heads Seagulls merged with Fortitude Valley Diehards to form the Seagulls Diehards team that won the BRL in 1988 and 1989 and those clubs had similar logos, but other than that there is no reason to call them the Titans. If the club wanted to draw on the history of the Vikings and Seagulls Diehards then they should have just teamed up with Fortitude Valley Diehards, named themselves the Gold Coast Diehards and use their history and existing fanbase in Brisbane to create a supporter base in both cities.
I don't think Valleys had a senior club at the time, so it would have been a feel good story. People from Brisbane who remembered tfr BRL could identify with the club and adopt them as their team.
