NT, does the nrl care?

With a push for more afl investment in the NT does the nrl care about the territory and taking the fight to afl for the only undecided state/territory in the country?

https://www.perthnow.com.au/sport/a...reater-investment-from-the-afl-ng-b881652609z

My initial reaction is no they don’t, but they have taken games there in recent seasons. Doesn’t Parra have an affiliation with NT Tourism??

I personally think that the Cowboys would be a team in a position to have more of an association Into the NT. Of course they are the closest - even though it’s still a huge distance. But I would think there could be a great opportunity for an academy type set up to recognise young talent, with a pathway into CC/NRL.

I’m unsure what exists at the moment

The NRL probably cares more about the. N.T. which is about 50/50 NRL/fumbleball, than the AFL does about Tasmania which is AFL central.

I high doubt it when you consider Tassie currently has 16 first grade AFL players from there and NT has 2 NRL first grade players.

Tasmania has been screaming out for an AFL local team. The AFL in their wisdom ,deny a heartland area, and by comparison the N.T.with a [population of 200k max) and not teh passion of teh Tasmanians gets a better run for such a small area.

Even without a club the AFL has the Tasmanian market sewn up, and they know it as well.
So look at it from their point of view, why waste resources placing a club in a market you've already got sewn up when you could spend them growing your share in another more contested market.

It's the catch 22 of being a regional market in the heartland, the passion that makes you the most deserving of a spot in the competition is also the thing that makes you the least likely to get one.

I doubt that the AFL will ever expand to Tasmania unless they stand to get a big cash injection out of it or they need them to make up the numbers.

The Eels had a regular deal with the N.T Govt. That may have expired.
The N.T has rl clubs ,Tasmania doesn't.
ATM I think the NRL has more pressing issues.Such as ensuring all matches are completed this year, and no club has a positive COVID result.

none of which has anything to do with your statement that afl “care” (spend less)on tassie than nrl do in nt! Looking at the results Id suggest your wrong lol.

Yeah Cadburys, and the Cascades and Boag brewery's are tiny businesses LOL.Hell their Govt was prepared to financially back a team.

tassie are desperate for a club, but afl know they aren’t big enough to sustain a $40million a year sports club. They also know that expansion clubs are more important in the long run.

You're good at putting words into peoples' mouths.

It's all to do with the fact you are always pumping AFL up sycophantic style.

My point was simply Tasmania is an AFL state, the AFL by comparison to the N.T which has a decent number of RL supporters,.pays proportionately less heed to Tasmania than the N.T..That is fact.

As to the NRL, they assist clubs such as the Eels in deals with the likes of the N.T Govt to stage games there.

Looking at your AFL boot licking commentary over the years here, and your supposed knowledge of Sydney and rugby league ,I'd humbly suggest you wouldn't know the difference between right or wrong LOL.

You change your tune more than my wife flicking through the car radio stations! What you said was that NRl probably care more about NT than AFL do about Tasmania. Which is clearly just nonsense given the investment in, size and profile of the games in the relevant states. AFl is much larger in Tasmania than RL in NT so clearly they do care more about Tassie than we do about NT.

If that's supposedly changing my tune, you need a good violin tune up and a new piano keyboard.
Nope I am comparing interest by AFL in Tasmania in the N.T.
If you bother my post" Tasmania has been screaming out for a AFL local team. The AFL in their wisdom deny a HEARTLAND area and by COMPARISON N.T.(with a POPULATION less than 200K ) and not the passion of Tasmania gets, a better run fro such a small area."

So N.T with a much smaller population that is roughly a 55/45% AFL/NRL split ,not really AFL heartland area, and nowhere near the TV ratings a Tasmania AFL team would get by comparison ,taking this into account is getting a better deal per person.
You need to read:-
the conversation.com 16/8/80 by a Professor from Tasmania to understand the number of people in that state involved with AFL from grassroots to the top. It's mind boggling.

So what!!!!

AFL lover,it still reinforces my view the NRL via the Eels has had regular visits to the N.T. ,a Territory that is not NRL heartland with a population less than $200K .Whereas Tasmania is AFL heartland, and in fact pro rata(pop wise) has more people involved in that code, than any other AFL state. They cannot get an AFL team. So the description probably ,appears. to be close to the mark..

You want a team in Perth which is nowhere near RL heartland ,yet Tasmania can't get one which is.Yet you constantly wet your Jimmies over the AFL LOL.

If ever you needed any greater example of the difference between the commitment of afl to grow their game compared to nrl here it is. Nrl employs about 10 people in WA and we’d be one of the biggest outposts!

“Another 104 are employed at AFL NSW, 88 at AFL Queensland, 40 at AFLNT and 29 at AFL Tasmania – the majority of which work with local and grassroots competitions in those states.”

This is a slight positive of Covid. The AFL will need to let most of these employees go, bringing them back in line with the NRL
