Australian Beer questions

Resch's Pilsener, Toohey Old are good beers.

Carlton Draught is a fairly standard, inoffensive beer.

Dogbolter (WA) is a great beer if you like the darker side.

James Boag is a nice, crisp Aussie beer.

I lived in Perth for a while and could not believe people could drink Emu Bitter or Emu Export (These cans of Red Death did seem to be consumed mainly in Parks and Reserved though)

Emu Bitter had an Ad Campaign going for a while boasting it was Australia's Bitter Beers with 28 IBU's (International Bitter Units).

No sh*t about that, It tasted like they had dropped a handful of old 2c coins in the bottom and strained it through the gussett of Cathy Freemans jumpsuit after that memerable 400m Final on a hot, humid Sydney summer night.

Awful.

I drink Coopers Pale when i can, great beer
Draught in town cos its cheap
Reschs Pilsner is good beer
New and VB are sh*thouse, pretty much anything under the fosters label is crap (unless cascade is, they are ok)
And yes, the Little Creatures pale ale is quality

If you are an old soak propped up in the front bar then you have to drink middies (so the beer is cold) of reschs with a dash of new (for some f**king reason)

Every beer mentioned in this Australian beer thread is foreign owned except for Coopers.
To be fair, the thread was started in 2008 when CUB was still Australian owned.

Locally brewed beers have obviously increased since then as well. Young Henrys, Burleigh Brewing, Black Hops, Balter were mostly unheard of 12 years ago.

Craft breweries tend to get bought out by the foreign conglomerates when they become popular.

Carlton Draught on tap, Coopers Pale Ale out of the bottle at home.

My favourite foreign beers are Kirin Ichiban, Hacker-Pschorr Dunkel and Munich Gold Lager, Sierra Nevada IPA.

Maybe, but they are popping up at a rate of knots - any that get absorbed are soon replaced by other craft breweries.

CUB have tried to hijack the idea with new brands that 'look' crafty. There's even CUB owned breweries with bar and kitchen made to look independent in order to appeal to that market.

Coopers are doing the same.

Sure, but good luck finding a readily available beer that isn't.

Or spirit, for that matter. Even wine to an extent.

I'm more than happy to drink craft but plenty of folks just don't like anything except bland, boring lagers as evidenced by this thread.

Of my 2008 top 3, VB has stood the test of time (VB might be many things but i don't think anyone's ever described it as bland!) but TEDs and Coldies dear oh dear what was I doing as a teenager
