Brilliant post.
Phil Gould went hard for this kid Ram. And from what I hear he has a hit list that will turn this Warriors side into another powerhouse just like he did in Penrith. He smelt blood and attacked like a wild animal and stole the prized jewel. Excellent spotting and he snuck under the radar very swiftly before any other side had a chance,
Now I have said this many times before that if we are able to get him aboard he will transform our club into what I call a 25yrs power house club. The envy of the NRL. Many mocked me over the suggestions of the Duke but you can already see his magic coming off at the Warriors. I'd offer him a 7yrs deal and let him name his price.
Not wrong Hindy about Gould, if only we could be so lucky. I am still waiting to see all these exceptional kids come through that we keep hearing about. Not one outside back of note since Hayne's era really. Really bad considering we are still the second largest nursery in NSW, even though our nursery has shrunk so dramatically over the last few years.
The best recruitment guys with the best eyes for talent are worth gold. I mean look at when the Dogs were run well and had some of the best talent spotters in the game. They were almost always successful. Manly too, not much of a nursery, but Bozo and Co always seemed to find some of the best talent going around to keep them ticking over with high quality teams. Even in Bozo's passing he left them with a gift he stole from right under our nose with Schuster when he was just 14 yrs old. How does a club like them who are not known as a development club always seem to unearth some of the best talent of any generation and we keep struggling to unearth just standard 1st grade quality players at times?
We need to identify the best person in rugby league for talent spotting/recruitment and pay him whatever it takes to come to Parra. We seem to just not know what is in our own backyard. Way to many times we have failed to identify players that we should have seen as quality and kept to nurture through our system.
Also I believe that if the NRL is serious about clubs developing juniors, then they have to bring in a rule that prohibits other clubs like Manly coming into our area and poaching our juniors until say the age of 18 years old at least. I mean Fulton signed this kid when he was 14 yrs old ffs. He trained with us and them for 2 weeks simultaneously and then opted to go to them. What chance have we got if every Tom Dick and Harry is allowed to come in and pick the cream before we have a proper chance to assess them?
