A Man Of The Match performance isn't the only key metric to analyse a player's quality - Tom Trbojevic won Man Of The Match against us, but I thought their forwards were fantastic, and belted us info frustration.

In football, a striker who scores three goals will likely win MOTM - but the CAM who set up all the opportunities for him, and defended like a demon, goes unrewarded.

Papali'i has been great, but at this stage, he isn't at the same level as Matterson - Matterson's defensive quality alone makes him a superior player, as well as his skill level.

Papali'i may well surpass him - but he's not there yet.
Paps' offload for our only try was pretty darn sweet.

Brilliant post.
Phil Gould went hard for this kid Ram. And from what I hear he has a hit list that will turn this Warriors side into another powerhouse just like he did in Penrith. He smelt blood and attacked like a wild animal and stole the prized jewel. Excellent spotting and he snuck under the radar very swiftly before any other side had a chance,

Now I have said this many times before that if we are able to get him aboard he will transform our club into what I call a 25yrs power house club. The envy of the NRL. Many mocked me over the suggestions of the Duke but you can already see his magic coming off at the Warriors. I'd offer him a 7yrs deal and let him name his price.

Not wrong Hindy about Gould, if only we could be so lucky. I am still waiting to see all these exceptional kids come through that we keep hearing about. Not one outside back of note since Hayne's era really. Really bad considering we are still the second largest nursery in NSW, even though our nursery has shrunk so dramatically over the last few years.

The best recruitment guys with the best eyes for talent are worth gold. I mean look at when the Dogs were run well and had some of the best talent spotters in the game. They were almost always successful. Manly too, not much of a nursery, but Bozo and Co always seemed to find some of the best talent going around to keep them ticking over with high quality teams. Even in Bozo's passing he left them with a gift he stole from right under our nose with Schuster when he was just 14 yrs old. How does a club like them who are not known as a development club always seem to unearth some of the best talent of any generation and we keep struggling to unearth just standard 1st grade quality players at times?

We need to identify the best person in rugby league for talent spotting/recruitment and pay him whatever it takes to come to Parra. We seem to just not know what is in our own backyard. Way to many times we have failed to identify players that we should have seen as quality and kept to nurture through our system.

Also I believe that if the NRL is serious about clubs developing juniors, then they have to bring in a rule that prohibits other clubs like Manly coming into our area and poaching our juniors until say the age of 18 years old at least. I mean Fulton signed this kid when he was 14 yrs old ffs. He trained with us and them for 2 weeks simultaneously and then opted to go to them. What chance have we got if every Tom Dick and Harry is allowed to come in and pick the cream before we have a proper chance to assess them?

Re Schuster, teams in the junior league that played Mounties knew how good he was, basically the best player in that age group. This was mentioned to the head of junior recruitment at the time the rumour started that Manly were tapping him up. Was told that he is only looking that good as he was bigger than others in his age group.

To say that was incorrect is how it was seen, he did have a brother in the Manly system but I don’t think a lot of effort was made to keep him.

Waqa was just as bad alongside Lane...

Matterson's defence has suffered from having no faith in Waqa...
The need for trust in defence is for the outside defender to trust the inside defender. The exception is when an edge forward takes the dummy trying to get across to help out his half.

That's my point. We couldn't see what Bozo could. Bozo is reported as saying that this kid will be the best of the bunch when he signed him. We need better identification at this level. Much better.

We haven't had a successful back come through in around a decade ffs. I put this lot as far as junior development in the same category as all the previous lot of recruiters. No consistency at all and at the moment no quality development at all in the backs. Just a couple have come through in the forwards. That's it.

That's true - and Matterson has also been looking after Arthur in defence, as well.

Arthur has generally held himself well - but the sheer volume of traffic directed his way probably started to take its toll against Manly.

potentially matto is skillful. But yet to see it. Doesn’t kick. Hasn’t got a great money ball. Occasional offload. Isnt consistent for breaking the line. Solid first grader at this point of his career

Is it not because Marata has been in the centres and suspended that this has not been the case?
I think BA prefers Lane in the middle. I don't. Lanes drop in form last year coincided with his move to the middle. Bernie G is a big fan of Lane and Matto on the edges. I thought Lane was elite when permanently on the edge.

I would be sniffing around canberra and seeing what good value for money players we could possibly get.
There is talent down there. I reckon some players need a change. As it looks like the titanic down there

Croker would be available imo. But unsure if he is what we need. His defense is solid but attacks average

Once we started setting up right for the long shift left (in 2020), Lane became more of a decoy runner, with Gutherson receiving the ball out the back.

do you think kidwell isn't talking to waqa

He has been talking to him for quite some time.
Waqa still makes basic matching up errors. When a prop fills in for you, and makes the defence on that side sync in a way you never could uh-oh.

The halves run the defence. So no doubt Arthur has to bear some weight of responsibility, but Waqa just doesn't seem to understand how to defend.
Nuikore needs to be straight back in at centre....
