mate you have royally cherry picked the milward / mary era

norman, korbin sims, jonus pearson, lafai, mccrone also spring to mind
I haven't seen anyone mention Mary's Mr Fix it, Jake Marketo. Nor the Butcher from the Bush whose name escapes me. What about George Rose or the return of FaiFaiLoa? Or Luke Page or Mark Ioan or Dane Nielsen?

On the other hand Joel Thompson was a beauty and with hindsight should have been kept.

On the basis of the evidence I am sticking with Griffin at least for now

Finucane wanted 4 years, Cronulla were the only club that offered that.
We offered four and more money and got rejected.

Fact check time. Please read the story about the coach (who also rejected us) also matching the dragons 4 year offer at reportedly less money.

So many fans in denial willing to support and defend an incompetent club.

We are a club in crisis and I won't defend our recruitment, but the deals were similar 50K difference overall

They were 750k for the first 3 years and 300K for year 4
2.550M for 4 years

We were 650K a year for 4 years
2.6m for 4 years

The trend is we seem to be out of favour.

Suli
Saab
Fitzgibbon
Finucane

Just some from memory.

None of these players/coaches left or didn't sign because of money.

We have been on the nose as an establishment for a long while. Used to be such an honour to be involved with the red v.

So sad to see it come to this regardless of you think of those individuals.

We as a joint venture club should have and I repeat, should have, been well and truly in the top 8 year after year after we won the 2010 grand final . Bennett leaving us was the worst thing that could have happened to us (so obvious in hindsight I know) but we have seen the continued downfall since then and nothing was done by the joint venture heirarchy to act swiftly to secure another leading head coach to take Bennett's place. They were just happy that we won the premiership that year and forgot the reason they went for a noted coach in the first place. They just couldn't care less and we have been abysmal and mediocre for so long as we all know.

How we can get back to where we were more than a decade ago is the million dollar puzzle as we just keep going around in circles and as fans, we keep on saying year after year the same thing about this club which keeps bobbing up and down basically in the one spot averaging 10th place on the ladder.

It has been a really frustrating last 10 years. Hopefully the next 10 years will be much better.

A lot of it is down to clubs issues but, have said this before, not being based in Sydney is THE biggest factor in our recruitment troubles

Doesn't seem to stop the Knights, Raiders and Titans in their recruitment efforts. Even the Warriors have managed to secure some big names despite having a dud coach.

Cronulla didn't pay overs for Hynes, in fact got a bargain, and they offered less than the Dragons did for Finucane.

Maybe we are just not a desirable destination.

There's going to be so much pressure on our juniors to score points next year - too much. Woods is another twilight player who will lose his will to play at the Dragons like Merrin and Graham. There's no one there opposition will fear.
Depends what you consider overs.......you don't think Molo/sua/Burgess offer anything ?....

3 rep forwards....2 with plenty left to offer and 1 on an incentive based deal....

P.S We were never after Hynes...Cronulla always pay too much.......

Saab...more to it...nothing to do with Hook...fitzgibbon...wasn't going to join anyone when we approached him...was under contract...Finucane went to sharks based on connection with Fitzgibbon via blues....

If we were that bad,,,we don't get Sua/molo/Burgess/McGuire/Bird etc....

I think we are that bad. Top player Managers, advice, their players to stay way from the Dragons. Pointing at their toxic environment. (Board, chairman,) In particular.

well it does - Raiders have resorted to the UK and internally struggle in open market, Titans are a cap city in QLD so not apples w apples but have been woeful for ages and the Knights have made the finals twice in the last decade. They signed Ponga as a teenager but aside from that I'd say they are head to head wiith us on a recruitment scorecard

Surely we could have brought out the big guns to seal the deal with Dale…

“But we’ve got a bus!”
