Gee. You make out like we are flushed with cash.
I'd say Mahoneys money is taken by Hodgson.
Everyone else leaving is on under 250k. We can probably save 150k on Mattersons last contract.
Penisini will need an upgrade. D.Brown prob will also.
At best we can f**k Sivo off and have 400k there. We could afford guys like Doorey from the Dogs and Mariner. Not much else.
You realise with

Kaufusi
Papali’i
Matterson
Mahoney
Stone
Opačić
and possibly Sivo leaving it frees up easily more than 2m?

We are flushed with cash and could afford all those players I mentioned.

I think potentially he’s a great runner but he’s coached to pass first. He’s one smart player thou

I don't think he is the more I watch him. He just takes off too slow. In under 20s he was far slimmer and defense where also slower.
Now he has bulked up to handle NRL his speed has been effected. The gaps in NRL close to fast for him. He may sneak the odd 10mtrs but he isn't going to do what Cook,Korisau,Grant do. They are another level
Reeds strengths is his kick game and crisp passing. Along with game smarts and grit.
If he Starr's to miss tackles and not create LBAs and TAs with his clever passing he falls into your average hookers.

I rate Bailey from Sharks as a better prospect.

Isn't the point of good cap efficiency being able to keep the core of your team together?? You have your core hand full of players and the rest of the team around them is fluid.
It’s what the good clubs do like the Roosters and Storm do, and now Penrith. They have kept the majority of their spine after making two GF’s. If we lose Moses, Brown or both we’ll just continue to be also rans like we have the last 30 odd years.

More like 1.6 would be my estimate.
400k is gone on Hodgson.
If sign matterson would be atleast 400k.
That leaves 800k and 4 players spots to fill. 200k a player.

RCG, paulo, gutho, waqa and maybe even Moses probably get more $$$ next season. We got to pay the pommie hooker too. Not sure we have this 2 m you speak of.

I used to follow under 20s. The class difference is huge. Stone was a weapon. He constantly busted tackles. At NRL level he is just an ok worker with a good tackle game. If he wasn't such a great tackler he wouldn't even get a sniff of NRL.

All those player already had large contracts. If they are getting anymore it would be slight. Maybe just enough to keep up with salary cap increases.

How is it distinguished from the other middle forwards though? By the jersey number? By his position at scrums? Probably the only reliable indicator of who is playing lock as opposed to prop is where he stands when receiving a kickoff or dropout. Otherwise he defends in the middle four (with props and hooker) and he attacks in the middle. Does he play more minutes than the props? Does he make more runs per minute or fewer? Does he throw more passes per run or fewer? These days it's just 8/10/13 in the middle and they tend to play three different roles (i.e. they play to their strengths). There's no good reason to call one of them the lock other than out of tradition based on jersey numbers.

They are traditionally, with the occasional exception smaller and more agile then big lumbering props and can roam more and cover defend all over the place. Like Hindy used to who said he was really the lock in our team but wanted the 11 jersey and therefore didn't change it.

When was the last time you saw locks regularly take the hitup from the kickoffs? Locks have varying rolls depending on their skill set. Front rowers are more locked into their roll of carting it up the middle or slightly wider to work over the halves and offload if the have that ability. Not to many props are running all over the place like a quality lock can. They have similar rolls yes, but different as explained.

Remember you don't want to be burning the crap out of your props doing extra running like a lock does and can. You want them to focus primarily on winning the middle.

Even if it means overpaying for both players?

Id rather let both players go if we had to pay overs.
What is overs?

I don’t think you can particularly pay overs for a class half.

we’re not talking about paying Sandow $600k back in the day when he was worth half that.

Moses has grown into a elite half and is still improving. If he commanded $900k then so be it, he’s worth that to the team. There is a severe lack of quality halves in the comp

Brown is still a level below him, and sure, if his manager wanted $900k or a $1m then I’d be waving goodbye.

RCG and Blake had Penrith topping their contracts. When does Penrith paying them stop? RCG didn’t take up his player option and renegotiated. I’m sure he probably secured a few more $$$. Guth took us to the cleaners.

Well your "just get it done and don't bore me with the details" stance defies logic merkin.

Where have I said we should “just get it done”.

I said it depends what the alternative is for it
To be considered overs. But you’re failing to acknowledge what I’ve said and making things up.

Effective cap management does not allow for overpaying of players above what the club believes they are reasonably worth to them.

If we offer Moses $1 million a season, and the (let's say, for example) Roosters come in and offer $1.25 million, effective cap management - much to the chagrin of fans - is to let the player go.

Seeing players leave is not a sign of ineffective cap management.
No. Its a sign of ineffective roster management and not having people connected to our club like Uncle Nick and Big Russ. Are we still ignoring 3rd party opportunities?

Nah bullcrap, I have interpreted it correctly. Storm are under cap pressure, but it’s different for them because they have won the comp a few times. So that leaves us with what strategy? Assuming they are doing it correctly?
