Stalled and stagnant Sydney clubs

If that's the case then why put a team there?

Its population is under 500k. If its people prefer onionball and fumbleball then there aren't going to be too many people left to support a new NRL club when there are nine within driving distance.

Roosters could convince 5k people from North Shore to attend 12 games at SFS each year if they marketed themselves better. That's just 1% of the population. Add 5k to what they get now and they're near the 20k mark. That's a step in the right direction.

When A league was looking to expand the north shore scored the best in all metrics. Large affluent population in biggest market in country.
North Sydney to central coast team would stack up against Perth etc I'm guessing

Always amuses me that RU and afl can take an area without a club there but nrl can’t hold it with three clubs in spitting distance of the region and media saturation of the sport in the city.
Any kid born after 2000 has no reason to lament the loss of the bears and no reason they aren’t playing RL and supporting one of the other 16 NRL clubs, ideally one of the three in easy travel distance,

Because that's how competition works being offshoot of Sydney premiership.
Has become a major plus when it comes to broadcast rights because of the amount Sydney content

People forget the NRL evolved from a Sydney RL comp

And yet they didnt put a team there? Couldn't have been that compelling!

Use your Bain

If hull kr died would its fans support hull fc or hull tigers

people are annoyed they lost their club just like you would be if super league brought back franchising and kicked out hull kr because they already have a bigger club in hull

The area. North Shore private school's are never going to align with RL
You must be young

when norths were around the support was split as much as the eastern suburbs is split between union and league

the biggest Toff private schools in Sydney are actually in the east. If the roosters had ever been kicked out then the area would be an even bigger hotbed for afl and union

No but the next generation would in all likelihood. When HKR got relegated to third division I still supported them but started going to Bradford Bulls as well to watch SL games and got into it with the great experience at odsal. Fans dont have to be lost.
Having said that we are what we are, but lets not use it as an excuse to hold ourselves back. No one should be kicked out unless they are no longer financially viable, and with a huge grant and pokies (at least for now) it doesnt look like anyone is going bust anytime soon.

Football clubs are making profits without pokies now

Revenue sharing isn't an NRL exclusive. Every League in the world does it
no one said it is lol. But I wonder how many top leagues the game grant makes up 50% of club revenue? With 50% of your revenue covered you'd hope to see some surplus at the bottom line. Personally id be happy to see the clubs get more, as long as its ring fenced for building revenue, attracting fans and building memberships.

Compare this to the revenue breakdown from the League and it most certainly is 50/50.

Teams are doing all of that

I’m not saying the bears should come in. I’m explaining why their loss was bad for rugby league and good for afl and the rugby union

if we go past 20 teams then we should look at central coast imo

Doubt it, the last tv deal is worth around $2.6billion a year. There's 30 teams earning an avg of $200mill each. If 50% of it was from TV grant it would cost the league $3billion a year in grant pay outs. Its more likely to be around 30-35% Id say.

And I'm just saying it didnt have to be bad for RL. It was just as bad an outcome as the NRL didn't have a strategy to ensure the area remained engaged with the game like it should.

A-League could put a team on the North Shore because it's a summer based competition. There would be zero competitors to worry about, other than a few NSW Blues games being played at North Sydney Oval. Not that anyone watches the Sheffield Shield.

Mariners should've been Northern Spirit but guy who set up competition was the rugby guy who created created super rugby. Both leagues now failing while competitions based around tradition & local derbies prospering.
