Stalled and stagnant Sydney clubs

Manly Warringah Sea Eagles are hardly flush with funds. North Sydney Bears were broke by 2003, without a stadium of their own, and Sea Eagles have picked up low end sponsors over the past 20 years.

Cowboys, Storm, Broncos, Raiders Warriors and Titans draw better sponsorship deals with more affluent companies than the turkeys from Manly.

Roosters have no trouble signing good sponsorship deals.

What's this 2003 at Norths you're talking about mate?

Affluent? Bro, the NRL was bailing out the Titans not too long ago lol.

I'm following the theme of this thread, which is stagnant Sydney clubs and how to make them better. It's my opinion that one club from Southern Sydney can become big by rebranding while the other one bites the dust and, Roosters can become like the Broncos on the basis Sea Eagles f**k off.

Sydney's NRL clubs are struggling to compete with the Swans because they're cannibalising themselves into oblivion. The big end of town has voted with their dollars and are not getting behind all nine Sydney NRL clubs. Fans are reluctant to attend games to the same extent as the Swans. It is what it is and refusing to acknowledge it will not solve anything.
The thread was started by a pom who supports Cumbria. It was a crap thread from the start

find someone from Sydney who actually understands Sydney who says there are too many clubs and you may get some traction

You know the part owner of the dragons is a billionaire yeh ?
Yes. Bruce Gordon.

Your point?

Doesn't mean there's enough businesses in Wollongong willing to throw big money at the club to keep it competing with the Broncos, Storm, Cowboys and Roosters. Millionaires can walk away whenever they like. See Nathan Tinkler and the Knights as a prime example of how badly things can go.

Tinkler went broke. The Gordon’s aren’t going broke

the problem with Illawarra is they have been treated like crap by the dragons not that they can’t support a team

mans by moving there it gives Cronulla the space to grow. The dragons can’t really compete anymore with Cronulla for the south of Sydney since they are so cashed up now

Neither of these things will ever happen. Manly will never rebrand to North Sydney Sea Eagles and they'll never relocate to SFS. They're a low brow club run by insular dinosaurs who think it's still 1967.
The Northern stand and centre of excellence was just completed. It’s heavily rumoured we’re next in line for funding for more of Brookvale to be rebuilt.

The club will never drop Manly from its name, it’s part of the brand. Warringah may get dropped in favour of other branding one day, but the Manly name isn’t going anywhere as long as the club is in Sydney.

Michael Searle's Centre of Excellence debacle was brought on by the GFC breaking out not long after the club was introduced. It was bad timing for a new club and a noose that hung around the their neck. Stadiums Queensland didn't help by charging a massive hiring fee just to use Robina Stadium. That's over and done with now.

Titans now have a strong ownership model and attracts high end sponsors like Village Roadshow.

Manly on the other hand has a betting company as their major partner. One of their three premier partners is a rubbish bin company. The club has been around since 1946 and is still a rabble.

North Sydney Bears aren't big like Redcliffe Dolphins and Easts Tigers. Not even close.

And yet Manly didn't need the NRL to bail them out recently lol. Mate the Staples Centre is sponsored by Crypto.com, a joke compamy if there ever was one, and I'd hardly call the Lakers or the LA Kings Mickey Mouse.

Storm are sponsored by Redzed, a self employed home loan specialist. Hardly prestigous, but guess what, they pay lol.

Now. 2003 Norths. What are you talking about?

Illawarra couldn't support the Steelers. Steelers were broke and needed Bruce Gordon to buy their share.

Why do you think Manly were given full control of the Northern Eagles licence they originally shared with North Sydney?

The problem with that is you’re all so conflicted you can’t see the problems. No one wants to admit theres a problem because it means admitting your club is part of the problem.

Manly gained full control of the Northern Eagles licence halfway through the 2002 season and rebranded as Manly Sea Eagles in 2003.

The Joint venture dissolved in 2001 mate. Manly technically never lost control of the license, it was their license from the start.

Jesus wept. These are basic facts.

None of us from Sydney are conflicted. The only idiots pushing this are outsiders like you

Sydney is the place where rugby league is at its strongest on earth.

It seems to make a lot of outsiders jealous. It won’t change anything though

you’re not used to growing up in a major city where rugby league is king. Trust me it was good

you are literally the last person a Sydney rl fan should listen too

"The partnership folded in 2002, with Manly emerging as the stand-alone entity. The 2002 season was played under the Northern Eagles name, although effectively the club was the Manly-Warringah Sea Eagles by another name. Halfway through the season, the Eagles even abandoned playing games at Gosford, due to a sharp decline in attendances. The people of Gosford preferred to wait until a home grown team was based there. The Manly-Warringah Sea Eagles name and colours returned to the NRL in 2003. "
