Redcliffe Dolphins recruitment targets

Bennett would not be drawn on the turmoil facing the Bulldogs and any opportunities there could be to recruit players from the embattled club.
“Their best players, they’ll want to keep … obviously. So, after that we’ll have to wait and see,” he says.
Bennett says the Dolphins have a “pretty good forward pack and we’ve got another couple of forwards coming in” and focus will need to shift to backline.
He confirmed the club has spoken to Bronco centre and young gun Herbie Farnworth but is waiting to hear what his plans are. The situation is the same with the Storm’s Cameron Munster.
As for Anthony Milford, he’s pleased to see him get a chance with the Knights this week but says it will take time for him to be match-fit after a six-month absence.

“Great to see, (he’s) a wonderful player,” Bennett says.
“He’s still on our radar.”
He ruled out attracting players from other codes, saying it hadn’t worked for other clubs and there was enough rugby league talent in Australia for the expanded competition.
“We’re confident about that. I was confident when they made the 17th team. I think we’ve done a pretty fair job. We’re not finished yet,” he says.

BENNETT ON FARNWORTH, TPJ LINKS AS KNIGHTS SNARE UK GUN

Wayne Bennett has maintained his interest in Herbie Farnworth’s services but the Dolphins face a serious fight to snare the Brisbane Broncos gun.
The 22-year-old centre is off-contract and is a key target for Bennett, who told reporters on Wednesday he has spoken with Farnworth and his management about a potential move.
Broncos coach Kevin Walters is not backing down though and told media on Wednesday that Brisbane is “going pretty hard” in its bid to keep Farnworth.
“He played his 50th game for us last week, we expect to see him running out in Broncos colours next year that’s for sure,” Walters added.
“There’s a lot (for him) to consider. Herbie is pretty popular among other clubs but he’s no more popular there than what he is here. I feel he belongs here, cut his teeth here and I’d love to see him stay on.”

Bennett was then asked about possible interest in highly-touted English player Kai Pearce-Paul, going on to reveal Newcastle had actually snared the 21-year-old.
“We’ve talked to a number of new players in the UK but he’s gone to Newcastle as far as I understand,” Bennett said.
Reports earlier in the year claimed Pearce-Paul had up to five NRL clubs interested in his services but it looks like he will be heading to the Knights in 2023.

Lodge left warriors immediately, I wonder why? Lol
Players don't want to relocate to New Zealand. It's an issue that will hamper NZ 2. ARLC could alleviate it somewhat by giving NZ teams a higher salary cap. Another option is to allow New Zealanders who play for New Zealand teams to earn up to an extra $100k per season outside of the cap.

Exactly. The system that we have in place now is way too rigid and there definitely needs to be something in conjunction with the salary cap to have it work properly. It has been shown over the history of the Warriors that it is too hard for them to get talent over to NZ, particularly coaching talent.

On the point of the second side, it is achievable and very advantageous but in order to do it we are going to have to plunder union ranks in order to benefit both the Warriors and the new team. Give them incentives and really go hard at Union and help them become better at retaining the talent that is already over there. One or two strong Kiwi sides in the NRL would be massive for the game.

The sad thing is the NRL only cares about giving the Sydney sides a leg up. They want teams from Brisbane, Newcastle, Newcastle, Melbourne and even North Queensland and Canberra to beef up the broadcast deal, but they don't want us to have an even chance of winning the premiership.

Courier Mail is saying Broncos will announce the re-signing of Herbie Farnworth tomorrow. Will only be a 1 year extension till the end of 2023.

Another player missed by Bennett and the Dolphins.

Weird. Wonder why it is only 12 months if true?

The Broncos have a gun centre coming through the ranks by the name of Deine Mariner. Scored three tries in a trial earlier this year and is probably one year away from pushing for selection.

Broncos would have risked losing him if they signed Farnworth to a long term deal.

Fair enough but why would he agree to a 12 month contract? Surely you would take the security of a longer term deal which I’m sure the Dolphins would be offering
