But once they offload Angus' $2m a year contract they should be able to fit Haas

Don't you know? They always go into each season $2m below the salary cap for just this type of player/club schism popping up. A truly professional and insightful organization the Roosters are. We can only dream of such brilliant management running our second rate loser club.

Angus would be on about 700k. If they offloaded him then Haas on 950k to a million would certainly be affordable. But then again B.Smith will be costing 800k.
I reckon JWH will also go.

J’MAINE HOPGOOD

J’maine Hopgood already has six first-grade games under his belt but that number will only continue to grow if his performances in NSW Cup are anything to go by.

In fact, Western Sydney rivals Parramatta have reportedly taken notice and snapped up Hopgood, proving that while Penrith’s production line is unmatched, it can’t keep them all.

A tireless defender in the middle, Hopgood also has ball-playing skills that make him a similar style of player to Isaah Yeo, with the ability to dig into the line and pass.

“He’s a bit of an old-style footballer, tough as teeth,” Hopkins said.

“He’ll rip you through the middle and is as tough and physical as they come. He’s not an overly large body for a guy that plays in the middle but he plays way above his body weight. There’s much more NRL to come for J’maine.

“He would fit right at home in the old 1980s games where it was just rough and tumble as well as the modern game. He learns fast, has a good football IQ and ticks all those boxes.”

Hopgood has averaged over 100 metres and 35 tackles per game in NSW Cup this season.

In the NRL, Hopgood has primarily played off the bench, putting up 70 metres and making 20 tackles per game in limited minutes.

Nah, Hindy reckons he must be shit if he's not already in first grade.

He played Flegg with Brendan Hands. Hands was No.7 and Hopgood was lock and captain.

He is lock and captain of their NSW cup team too.

Actually it might work to his advantage not playing to much NRL till now. Since he is on the smaller side, it may have allowed his body to mature and develop into a man without getting bashed as a teenager trying to adjust to the slaughter house that is the NRL. He is coming into his strongest years as a footballer and man now. It should be to his advantage and much easier to tolerate the bash and barge game that we will ask of him.
