Rumoured Targets 3

I was thinking this just yesterday. McManus and Uate spring to mind. McManus was through pure volume rather than getting tackle break yardage.

Uate is the last to spring to mind.
Jimmy Mac was great at kick returns cause he was a smart footballer. He would run between defenders and get to his front quickly. Made whover took the pill after him look very good

Marzhew was a filler for Don and is twice the athlete he ever was. He’s a late bloomer who begs the question are there certain players who just need a chance. Not everyone is discovered as a prodigy.

So are there any rumours or suggestions around about whether we're on the hunt for an extra edge and/or middle forward? Looking at the squad as it stands, it seems absolutely critical we find at least one more decent quality first-grader in that position. The depth just isn't there right now, and if we lose Elliot or Hetherington for any length of time we could be in real strife. I'd love us to get a point of difference in there, someone young and mobile with footwork even if they weren't the finished product or a superstar. We're definitely lacking some strike power and Frizzell isn't getting any younger.

No rumours.

We are probably relying on one of the current lot to take a leap. I fully expect to see Fitzy there round 1.

Parr talks about how they plan to fill the last 3 roster spots. Says there’s plenty of time to fill them (I think you still need 29 of the top 30 filled by round 1 but that could have changed) and notes that there’s players currently on train & trial deals who could earn one of the spots over pre-season. No other player swap deals are in the pipeline at the moment. On the link to Lachlan Miller he says, “He's contracted to the Sharks so it would be inappropriate for me to talk about someone who is contracted to another club."

The club never released the names of the train & trial players like some clubs do but one we know about is Toni Tupouniua, the younger brother of Sitili from the Roosters. He had been in the QLD Cup system previously and was with the Panthers last season. Only seen him in photos but he looks bigger than his brother, would be nice if he turns out almost as good but there’s probably a reason he’s 23 and signing train & trial deals.

The other one that’s been in the news is Temple Kalepo. I believe he is contracted to the Knights on a NSW Cup deal but could earn his way into the top 30 with a good pre-season. Don’t think we lost much going from Randall to Mann/Crossland as depth but it’d be nice to have a specialist hooker in the squad and he had wraps coming through at the Warriors.

That is incredibly depressing. A workmanlike pack doesn't cut it. Pretty much every other team has something dangerous to offer on the edges from their forwards. Who is going to take that leap for us? I don't see it.

I feel like Elliott has some skill and offers something different to the rest of them. It would be nice to have a genuine tackle busting back rower who can it a gap though. Obviously they’re in high demand though so not easy to find.

Toni T was playing mostly Ron Massey Cup last year, says enough really. Although Penrith did have a gun NSW Cup team winning the comp.

Yep, giving a 3 year deal to a bloke who is third choice at the sharks and will be 32 at the end of it is great business.

Especially with Will Pryce coming in 2024 and a few likely juniors about.

Yeah I’m not sure why we’re so high on Miller? He’s not a spring chicken.

We’ve got a tonne of decent young fullbacks too.

Connor Tracey is the one I would have been pushing for at the Sharks.
