Peter V'landys reveals he wants FIVE NRL teams in Queensland
ARL commission chairman Peter V'landys has revealed the NRL is exploring the option of adding a fifth team in Queensland amid concerns over the AFL's exponential growth.
Nah whilst playing craps at the Vegas casinos and losing, he said to Abdo " Bro ,Perth is off the radar now, too many white pointers, a bridge too far, they would still whine if given the go ahead and most of all they don't like me".Eh? Thought it was def Pasifika, or maybe Melbourne, or nz2, or Perth or ………..lol
Way I read it was 20 teams and not necessarily team 18.Eh? Thought it was def Pasifika, or maybe Melbourne, or nz2, or Perth or ………..lol
LU: afl is nothing in BrisbaneWay I read it was 20 teams and not necessarily team 18.
It’s all just free press.Peter V‘landys is like the CEO version of the bears.
TBF to him it’s a good tactic of generating interest amongst future potential expansion bids and stirring up media interest.
Keeps the game in the headlines and tongues wagging. It’s all just free press.
as long as it’s not the ridiculous pasifika.I wouldn't be surprised if the 18th team is Ipswich.
The decision to let Redcliffe in has made further expansion in Brisbane inevitable.
You'd hope that the NRL have the brains to realise that having no presence in two of the top five markets in Australia is a more pressing issue than further consolidation of the market where they have the strongest market share in the country. I wouldn't get my hopes up though.
The Jets and The Bears(playing mainly in Perth) should come into the NRL with Cronulla, Manly and Balmain becoming NRLW and NSW Cup sides. The Sea Eagles supporters will still have an NRLW team to support and a team in the NSW Cup plus NSW and the Kangaroos. The same would be the case for Cronulla and Balmain supporters. Call the Panthers the Western Sydney Panthers, playing 2 matches in Campbelltown. Call the Roosters the Eastern Sydney Roosters and call South Sydney, The Rabbitohs. We'll have a 16 team NRL then, which is the right size for the quality of rugby league player we currently have in Australia.
that whole Ipswich/Darling downs region is where the Walters bro's, Langer, Lockyer and Wayne Bennet all came from.Adding the Jets into the NRL would be a feel good story, but Brisbane's west/south west is deep Bronco territory. The Jets would basically be isolated to Ipswich City and the immediate surrounds for their core base (they could potentially expand their influence even further westward into Warwick and Toowoomba if they wanted). Everything east of Springfield Lakes, Redbank and Bundamba would be very hard ground to take as far as supporters are concerned.
NZ 2 or Perth makes more sense imo.

I just saw a pig fly past the window. The Jets and The Bears(playing mainly in Perth) should come into the NRL with Cronulla, Manly and Balmain becoming NRLW and NSW Cup sides.
