Again its all about within what timeframe... AFL and SR are a different sports run by different admins, AFL are dumb enough to place pins on a map hence GC suns and GWS Giants, and super rugby are screwed in Aus, we take the best talent and theyve let there local comp whither on the vine ... NRL are smarter at it with clubs nowadays, they would never drop a brand to place pins on a map or shrink their comp to accommodate for play pool shortages... not since the inception of the storm and end of the super league, yes those mergers happened, but all of that will never happen again, they believe in each brand and the community aspect each can bring, clubs like Newcastle show that even when you have low seasons, the town still turns up... RU has lost sight of the people and its original clubs, AFL do this well for Melbourne, but their draft helps them cover up their deficiencys.. not a good way to grow your base of local talent or participation within a non heartland area.... its akin to Melbourne storms link with the falcons of sunshine coast... its fine for one club, but to do it for many is unviable...
It’s far better to try to maintain brand loyalty than win back lost customers. That applies to sport as much as it does to any business.

Regarding player pools, AFL is basically played in one country. The rest is propaganda. You could add up all those overseas fumbleballers and they’d be the equivalent of some low low low low regional amateur comps.
Meanwhile, some version of Rugby, either League or union, is played in multiple countries. I just don’t buy the talent pool argument. To me it’s more a lack of decent scouting problem.

Not just scouting, hoarding by certain clubs to keep them relevant

The Western Corridor between Toowoomba and Ipswich is one of the fastest growing parts of Australia. It makes sense for the area to eventually get an NRL club.

I'd prefer to see a 2nd NZ team introduced ahead of them.

Ideally for expansion i'd go:

1 - NZ 2 (Wellington)
2 - Perth
3 - Toowoomba/Ipswich
4 - NZ 3 (South Island)
5 - Central QLD

Former customers are old. Always better to gain new fans than old. Have potential to be fans longer

There's no way a team could represent Ipswich and Toowoomba. The two cities aren't event adjacent to one another. They're separated by the Locker Valley.

The Toowoomba Region is in the Darling Downs. Ipswich is in Brisbane.

The Dolphins are struggling to connect with the Sunshine Coast. That's despite the Sunshine Coast being adjacent to Moreton Bay.

The Bulimba Cup pitted Toowoomba against Ipswich and Brisbane.

Toowoomba is not in the Darling Downs. Toowoomba to Ipswich is only 1.5 hours by car, which is more or less the same drive as Redcliffe to Brisbane CBD yet the Dolphins are happy with splitting games between their suburban ground in Redcliffe and Lang Park at Milton.

redcliffe to brisbane city is 45-60min depending on traffic, not 1.5 hours

The original comment was in relation to culling a team. You do realise that teams have existing supporters across all demographics?

It doesn't matter what point u attempted to make, most sought after demo are young ppl because they not yet set in ways & can become long term customers. No business other than those which are selling specific products like the depends nappies Perth red wears go after old ppl.

You do realise that if you cull a team you don’t instantly just get solely young fans for the new team. You get a new base spread across every demographic for the new team just like the old team, except the base is much smaller than the old team because it hasn’t been around as long. Plus you’re trying to convince new people to part with their cash, rather than get cash off people you’ve convinced already, which again, is always harder. I don’t think you quite get what I’m talking about and are just focused on “young = good.” It’s more complex than that.

Easts Tigers have at least four clubs in eastern Logan. There's the Springwood Tigers and Rochedale Tigers in the north-east and the Flagstone Tigers and Yarrabilba Tigers in the south-west. They've also formed a rugby league academy at Mabel Park State High.

You don't know what you're talking about.

The old drunks who play the pokies at Leagues Clubs in Sydney wear nappies.
