That’s why Perth shouldn’t get a team

it’s not irrelevant

if your club can’t meaningfully grow its own juniors it doesn’t deserve a spot at the table
Clubs dont grow jnrs till after 16! Its stunning how hard it seems to be for some people to differentiate between Jnr RL participation and older Jnr RL elite pathway development!

You are one saying PNG will produce all these kids for other clubs to pick up lol. Of course its not irrelevant, NRL first grade development basically comes down to scouting then quality of pathway programs for the handful of quality kids the scouts spot. Where those kids live and play school or kids club RL is irrelevant as long as there is enough of them playing around the world.

Clubs who dilute the playing pool shouldn’t be admitted

this isn’t rocket science

I'm yet to meet Kiwi who doesn't follow both league and union. Give them an NRL club and a lot of union players switch to playing league straight away.
A lot of our kids in WA play both at younger ages. The best are now choosing to stick with union as there is a local elite pathway to first grade which RL doesnt have. No surprise that a combination of Twiggy investing millions in union Jnrs and the demise of SG ball Pirates has seen a number of WA kids make Union rep teams last year.

I don't think they'll get a Whole team of locally png only players, i can only see them like the same guise as the warriors, but its the system the clubs run like, where players drift in and out, if you see the comings and goings of reserve graders, its amazing how many start at Penrith, Newcastle or Wests, its like a revolving door, we just got daine lauire back from the tigers, he is a better player after leaving too, i reckon any team that has the potential to develop, must do it, as it will only help them in the long run, salary cap wise too its genuinely easier to keep juniors at a minimum wage longer and extend them like Penrith do now, than to juggle a deck of 5 aces along with the rest of the team royals, instead you should be paying your marquees as leaders, and have the aces and juniors, and they slowly become aces that get traded in for more juniors etc
Totally agree and one good thing the NRl seems to be doing is putting pressure on clubs to get better in their pathways. Its no surprise the 3 most successful clubs in modern times, Penrith, roosters, Storm all have excellent elite jnr scouting and development programs.

Melbourne debut into first grade more players than pretty much any club. They are the epitome of quality Jnr scouting for a club.
We don't wat more clubs who only scout, we need clubs that do both, that also want to attract kids to them, Melbourne does this yes, but not a a junior level, they get the best 18 yrolds from seq or north of that... its system thats worked for a while now, but the dolphins with impead that, remember who their recruitment officer is, there is no love for the Storm there, besides they are debuting actual Victorians now, they could be doing more soon

Storm poached Jerome Hughes and Brandon Smith from the Cowboys.
And turned players who struggled into superstars. Care to mention the players Storm have developed that have gone to other clubs to help them? Dolphins maybe? lol
Every club signs some, some sign a lot more. Like I said Storm debut more first graders than most, a lot more.

It’s no surprise the club that produces juniors from its own area is dominating the nrl over clubs that buy comps and cheat the cap

Easier game to play and neglect of a sport will do that. We had 10k players in a city half the size till NRL upped sticks and left.

You live in a fantasy world when it comes to Perth. Always talking it up and ignoring its flaws. I respect your passion for RL in Perth, but I would take you more seriously if you took the rose coloured glasses off and accepted reality.

What really pisses me off is your entitlement complex. You expect the rugby league community in Queensland and NSW to fund rugby league in Perth to the detriment of their own clubs.

Incorrect, there needs to be vacancies too, a club like storm fills jobs for players who cant get a run
There’s 3 current expansion locations who can strongly grow the player pool so nah it’s more than just giving people a chance

when you say do both, what do you mean? NRL clubs dont develop players U16. Thats the job of ARLC, local clubs, schools and the state bodies. Penrith are scouting all their players, they are just fortunate they are based in a region with a high RL participation level so can scout mostly locally and not have to look in other areas.

If we are limiting NRL expansion to only areas with current high RL participation areas then weve only got 3 options. PNG, NSW and Qlnd. Bit self defeating?

Perfect example of stalwarts taking that marquee cash to the dolphins,Kaufusi and the Bromwich bros
That leaves storm with no choice but to fill those voids, promote within, then fill the reserve grade side or lower half of the top30, with ..... whoever, but a team like png can offer those lower spots filled a lot quicker than trying to get scott drinkwater, or cooper johns from terrigal

I guess my point is that any new expansion side will need pathways and systems to do that. I would expect any new expansion side will run elite programs at each age group and reserve grade.
I guess the question is: is there more talent in PNG to fill those elite age group teams than there is elsewhere?
From a numbers point of view probably yes
from a quality of those numbers to be at that elite level at different ages? That will take time. Which in essence isnt any different from any new NRl club location.

Hughes made his NRL debut with the Cowboys. I'm fairly sure it was against the Dragons in Wollongong during the Origin period. Storm poached him because they liked what they saw.

Kalyn Ponga is another player who made his debut with the Cowboys before he was poached by another club.

Imagine how good the Cowboys would be if they still had Ponga and Hughes in their team?

This year the Cowboys have lost Riley Price after giving him a go in the NRL.

Dolphins poached a few plodders from Storm who are nearing retirement. Other than Kaufusi, they played shit football at the Dolphins. It's no wonder the Dolphins fell off a cliff when Thomas Gilbert sustained a season ending injury. I told you he was the club's best signing.
