Hughes made his NRL debut with the Cowboys. I'm fairly sure it was against the Dragons in Wollongong during the Origin period. Storm poached him because they liked what they saw.

Kalyn Ponga is another player who made his debut with the Cowboys before he was poached by another club.

Imagine how good the Cowboys would be if they still had Ponga and Hughes in their team?

This year the Cowboys have lost Riley Price after giving him a go in the NRL.

Dolphins poached a few plodders from Storm who are nearing retirement. Other than Kaufusi, they played shit football at the Dolphins. It's no wonder the Dolphins fell off a cliff when Thomas Gilbert sustained a season ending injury. I told you he was the club's best signing.
Might want to look at Cowboys retention strategy, or if Townsville is best place for an NRL club if no-one wants to live there :)

Didnt Hughes debut for Titans before Cowboys poached him?

23/31 current players made their NRL debut for Storm.
12/25 current players made their debut for Cowboys

Hmm which club is doing better in NRL player development?

when you say do both, what do you mean? NRL clubs dont develop players U16. Thats the job of ARLC, local clubs, schools and the state bodies. Penrith are scouting all their players, they are just fortunate they are based in a region with a high RL participation level so can scout mostly locally and not have to look in other areas.

If we are limiting NRL expansion to only areas with current high RL participation areas then weve only got 3 options. PNG, NSW and Qlnd. Bit self defeating?
I meant they need to be attracting kids to play RL in their area, not run camps or comps... Victoria is fickle with their sport, kids have AFL everywhere, what kid wants to be Cameron Munster? im talking attracting kids to the club, look at the broncos, every qld kid wants to be darren lockyer, or steve renouf, storm are followed and watched, but kids in Victoria aren't idolising them to play RL, like they do with Brian To'o and Nathan Cleary...
And to answer your 2nd question, no i reckon their needs to be more teams to create more vacancies, then players will fill them, but we can't do that until all clubs are developing, half the comp just poach,
Too short sighted

Nz2 has no bid , brisbane 3 already has a pathway, they feed the storm...
Brisbane easts aren’t there to feed the storm permanently lmao

anyone of those spots if they got a team will produce more juniors than melb or Perth

You and your Perth mates weaken the case for a Perth team by dumb arguments

I could argue for a Perth team far better than you lot

juniors and tv ratings are a black hole for Perth

saying anything different is nonsense
you need to actually make some arguments though, not just throw insults about how bad others arguments are. Maybe some crayons will assist you?

Hughes did play for the titans like for 4 years but only 1 nrl game, i think he was a roosters junior

Wont take that long... but the bulldogs are setting up penrith v2.0, they already have started their junior programs, just like the one gould set up in penrith 10 years ago, it will probably be another 3 years before they are going to see the fruits tho

and here we go again.......
You don't have an argument.

Always demanding the ARLC give Perth a team and provide the WARL with funding to potentially grow something that doesn't exist, yet ridiculing the PNG bid for getting a helping hand.

Do you not see the hypocrisy?

If you're going to make me choose between Brisbane and Perth then I'll always choose the former. You would too if you were from here.

Do you want people to be for Perth or not?

If you want people like me on your side then stop demanding that Perth be given preferential treatment.

Things go in cycles

everyone was trying to copy the storm for 20 years or so

now Penrith are way ahead of everyone else so people will copy them but starting from ten years behind them

Penrith have the cheat codes for rugby league

it’s not supposed to be this easy

The only argument for perth is the nrl should be charitable for 20 years Investing in a Perth team which in the short term offers nothing in the hope that after a decent amount of time they will have justified their existence

Cowboys don't have two salary caps to work with. Nor were they given $100m by News Ltd over 20 years.

Which city produces more born and bred NRL players: Townsville or Melbourne?

But they already do, it just gets debuting at the storm.... this is why its not adding more to the overall pool, dolphins are cultivating from cutters to wide bay, aswell as those 3 png recruits, easts wouldnt do that, theyd just align themselves with whoevers local, like Ipswich or Wynnum etc, who already are feeding someone already, cutters wernt, png weren't, the whole CQ area wasnt, so one team was acceptable, another one is not adding anything.... they will create vacancies, but so can Vic2, or Perth

Penrith have an advantage over most clubs in that they have a very large junior nursery, which they've had for a long time due to their demographics. It's just the last 5-6 years they have got their shit together probably kickstarted by Phil Gould, as much as it pains me to say.

PNG has produced less NRL talent then WA in the last Decade.

It's years away from producing anything, if ever.

It's some weird colonialism that people think we can just exploit them for talent. Even if we could, why not just fund their pathways now?

Every single PNG player leave the moment they get an opportunity.

Same could be said for Perth though. They used to run a SG Ball team.

Of course they leave. There is no fulltime opportunity in PNG, same reason WA juniors come East if they want a career

Easts can walk away tomorrow storm would have nothing

Well maybe we should add teams which have similar advantages as opposed to being in a rugby league desert ?
