Less under the cap compared to what? The player is entitled to take his TPA and the money that goes with it and go to a club that is offering more from their cap. It's all separate and at arm's length from the club... or so the NRL tell us....

I am interested to hear from others who are old enough to have enjoyed the 4 GF wins in the 80's and the the drought that followed.

Just a simple observation from my POV, and certainly no fault on you, but the Brad Arthur era was a tropical island holiday compared to previous years.

I wasn't old enough to see our last Premiership win (I was 1 year old), but I think Arthur was exactly what we needed at the time.

He galvanised the club, brought in some quality players, and made us generally competitive on the field.

But he hung around too long, and towards the end of his tenure, it became apparent that his lack of willingness to evolve as a coach was causing more harm, than good.

I thank him for what he achieved in his time with us, but moving him on was the right move.

Yep agreed. I was 4 in 86 so don't remember a thing... I can remember later 80s and early 90s like it was yesterday. Players like Scotty Mahon, Joe Bartolo, Billy greentree, Cameron Blair and Danny crnkovovic were my heroes growing up. That shows how good we were in them times

I've been watching the Eels since the late 60's/early 70's.
Yet players like you mentioned, as well as Brian Jackson, Mick Delroy, etc.... were so exciting to watch coming up through our lower grades back then.

I never started following footy till I was 10.
First full grand final I saw was 1991.

I went to my first GF in '74 as a 10 yo. I got covered in beer after a fight between Bulldogs and Roosters supporters under the Bradman Stand.
Didn't attend the '76 GF between Parra and Manly. I had Chicken Pox believe it or not.
Have attended every Eels GF since and pretty much every single one between 1999 and 2012.

Seems like it's Jim deciding, if you read his quotes.

It was probably Jim deciding before too (in agreement with MON's actions), but now his decision appears to have changed (in agreement with Ryles' stated position).

Not terribly confusing to students of shifting powers, one would have thought...

Been around for a long time and the 2 standouts from junior reps were Jamie Lyon and Tim Smith, daylight behind them.
Dylan Brown was possibly next best coming through from 15/16 years old.

From our own junior clubs, probably Michael Buettner was good and above the pack.from the U11s to first grade
