But TPAs mean you can pay them less under the cap, so they have the same purpose. Apples and oranges are both fruit ffsTPA's are negotiated independently/separately from club contracts. Apples and oranges

I'm confused.Sigh. Etc.
Much better for the club not to give any player options at all - as I believe Ryles has indicated his stance on such options in our new future.
FfsI think we’ll continue to use them as needed. It’s not Ryles that does the negotiations.
Did you read what he said? He said they might limit the number of options that come up at the same time. He didn’t say they would stop using them. You just keep making shit up. You previously claimed Ryles said it ffsYou're right, it wasn't MON... it was the Eels CEO Jim Sarantinos with the quote, distancing the Eels from future use of player options in the new Ryles era.

The $1.25m contract black holes hurting battling NRL clubs
The true cost of moving on an unwanted NRL player has been revealed as Parramatta seek a different strategy for future contract negotiations.www.smh.com.au
Of course as you always remind us, the club knows best!
Less under the cap compared to what? The player is entitled to take his TPA and the money that goes with it and go to a club that is offering more from their cap. It's all separate and at arm's length from the club... or so the NRL tell us....But TPAs mean you can pay them less under the cap, so they have the same purpose. Apples and oranges are both fruit ffs
I am interested to hear from others who are old enough to have enjoyed the 4 GF wins in the 80's and the the drought that followed.
Just a simple observation from my POV, and certainly no fault on you, but the Brad Arthur era was a tropical island holiday compared to previous years.
No I am not being a hugger. Well, others will determine if I am or not.
Agree with all of this. Was also 1 when we last won it. Been a fun journey…. One day… maybeI wasn't old enough to see our last Premiership win (I was 1 year old), but I think Arthur was exactly what we needed at the time.
He galvanised the club, brought in some quality players, and made us generally competitive on the field.
But he hung around too long, and towards the end of his tenure, it became apparent that his lack of willingness to evolve as a coach was chasing more harm, than good.
I thank him for what he achieved in his time with us, but moving him on was the right move.
Yep agreed. I was 4 in 86 so don't remember a thing... I can remember later 80s and early 90s like it was yesterday. Players like Scotty Mahon, Joe Bartolo, Billy greentree, Cameron Blair and Danny crnkovovic were my heroes growing up. That shows how good we were in them timesI wasn't old enough to see our last Premiership win (I was 1 year old), but I think Arthur was exactly what we needed at the time.

Like when Moylan’s Keno TPA transferred to Maloney on their way through the doorLess under the cap compared to what? I've been watching the Eels since the late 60's/early 70's.
Yet players like you mentioned, as well as Brian Jackson, Mick Delroy, etc.... were so exciting to watch coming up through our lower grades back then.
I never started following footy till I was 10.
First full grand final I saw was 1991.
Seems like it's Jim deciding, if you read his quotes.I'm confused.
I thought from reading here that O'Neill was responsible for us having so many PO's.
If that's the case then why is Ryles now making those decisions?
Does some community work at my kids school. Absolute champion. Funny watching kids not understand who isThe best kid I saw coming through was Glenn Liddiard. I've no doubt if he'd have come through under Gibson he would have been a superstar.
Been around for a long time and the 2 standouts from junior reps were Jamie Lyon and Tim Smith, daylight behind them. The best kid I saw coming through was Glenn Liddiard. I've no doubt if he'd have come through under Gibson he would have been a superstar.
