nah .. this is a third world country where they are setting up unique infrastructure projects that I’m assuming they have limited expertise in, and in addition trying to set up a pathways system across a country comprised of terrible local transport and potential cultural issues that Australia doesn’t have …

In addition they have to get it done in 30 months
A bid that has 600 million behind it

Where rugby league is the national sport

Where they have hired people with nrl
experience like Joe grima and ex referee tony archer (remember him?) to help with pathways and development

Where they have run a side in the qld cup for ages which has been fairly successful

PNG and nz2 are also the pathway to a stronger international scene and the rugby league World Cup

So way more important long term than Perth Adelaide or even Ipswich

The money provided doesn’t make the obvious problems any easier to address …

I can’t believe this is a serious debate … let’s throw this out to a wider group …an AFL team in Tasmania or the PNG NRL team … which is the more difficult task folks …?

I can’t believe this is a serious debate either

600 million will solve every problem they have

Oh and those sweet tax exemptions

You’ve got failed expansion teams in a league and super rugby

You said it’s the worst expansion bid ever lol

There's no getting through to him on this I'm afraid.
A country that listed as one of the most dangerous places in the world with running water and basic education among it's problems some how will seamlessly run out to face the Broncos...

It's happening and there's every chance it's a complete train wreck.

He didn't say that. He said the most challenging and it is.
The fact it needs 600 million to get off the ground proves that.. and yet we still don't know if it'll fly.

I swear you shouldn't utter another word about it until you've been there and probably won't go because you know that you're not safe there.
Right now, the only place you've been is fantasy land.

So go ahead, short flight. Take some pictures of the perfect NRL level infrastructure and deluxe neighbourhoods that the stars can choose to stay in.
Don't get stabbed for your shoes and I'm in.

Until then, biggest sporting franchise challenge eva !!!

I’m not saying it can’t work … just that it will be very difficult…

Can’t be more challenging than the clubs that have failed already

What’s the challenge exactly now ?

They are taking an existing qrl cup side, throwing 600 million at it

And will have spent years beforehand on junior pathways

You would have to a seriously cooked unit to think that PNG will not be the most difficult expansion in RL history.

Did not mention the bid once
Just remember this conversation when the team is a success

People have a habit here of just doing 180s

I have 100 percent confidence in the team being a huge success

I don’t get the negativity

League has expanded to loads of places where there are only poor while people and 50 years down the track those teams are a success (Penrith or Cronulla)

Is it sour grapes their favourite expansion team didn’t get in ? Or just png isn’t cool like Tasmania is lol

WTF are you talking about ? I have said nothing about the bid … what would be the point of that now ..: they are in FFS …

So the nrl accepted a bid they didn’t vet and find to meet their standards ?

Everyone has been saying it’s not fair to judge Perth bears on the standard of png since png was just a one off in terms of govt support

Why not explain exactly what’s going to be done difficult about this team now ?

Where did I say that ?

You obviously don’t know what “most difficult “ means …

I have put forward reasons already …why don’t you explain why an AFL team in Tasmania is more difficult ? Are you working out and posting at the same time again?

Nah don’t want to spoil the thread with too much afl talk

You haven’t actually said what’s going to be difficult now

Junior pathways are already in place

They already have a team

The stadium is getting uograded

They are building athletes village

They have tax exemptions

The nrl is controlling how and where the money will be spent not the Aussie govt or the png rl

So what’s the hard bit going to be going forward to getting the team starred

I follow the png bid closely it’s good to have actual facts on hand rather than just feelings and bias

Look ..this is such a dumb argument from you …I can’t believe you are casually dismissing the potential issues ….i certainly hope the NRL aren’t being as blasé

If anyone wants to support you on your argument I’ll take it up again with them …suspect I’ll be waiting a while …

Name them then

Don’t deflect and I’ll happily debate them
