I'd have the Storm play them at Optus. The Storm a NRL team in an AFL stronghold against a Perth NRL team in an AFL stronghold. If history serves me correctly the Storm grabbed a number of Red's players in the early days(after the latter folded) .
Let's face it Melbourne & Perth are real city rivals .
Finally that would really grab National attention in not only Perth but Victoria and of course NSW /QLD and Canbraaaa. The ratings would be off the chart if programmed at a time slot friendly to all.

Storm is likely to be in Vegas 2027…and I think Perth needs to open at home in 2027….

I like the idea of the dragons in the first game …a nod to the Reds first game in 1995

Agreed, trial only and use NSO as a training field when the team is in Sydney
What are you going to do about the drop in cricket pitch and the agreement with Cricket for that trial?

That could be huge especially if Melbourne remain as successful as they have been over the last 30 years and Perth start firing. It has the potential to the highest rating game of the year.

Todays headlines are code wars driven unfortunately

Click bait story’s about the NRL coming to ’eat the AFLs lunch ‘ and sharing Unions players with the Force.

The first game for the Perth Bears has to be at Optus.

Optus x 2- opening game against Dragons. Historical Western Reds first opponent. The second against Manly.
Sydney game against Souths at SFS. Both sides got kicked out. In their first year, the Bears will lock fans out from NSO. The remaining nine games at HBF Park.

The jersey and logo needs to have some gold. The logo should have gold on the left hand side of the Bear shaped as the WA state. Red and Black on the right to represent Norths. And there has to be a bit of gold somewhere on the jersey.

No, but you can extract the gist of the article from what we can see.

For mine, they're right. AFL probably DIDN'T lobby anyone to run a smear campaign against the NRL / Perth Bears bid.

...BUT...

The aussie rules adoring Ch7, West Australian, Libs leader I feel absolutely were doing it for their own love and loyalty to their sport, which meant trying to squash any real opposition to their passion. Aussie rules wouldn't have had to do anything. Their minions were doing it for them anyway.

Does anybody have the text for this article.

AFL chair Richard Goyder has rejected speculation from some league pundits that the code had been lobbying against the franchise with the WA Government to try and block its expansion.

“Zero chance,” the prominent WA company director told The West Australian on Thursday following an announcement by State Government and ruby league chiefs.

“It’s not what we do. We’ve probably got more in common than not in some cases. We all want good facilities and good processes to encourage young people to play sport.”

The AFL has no fears about rugby league’s expansion into its WA heartland, saying the NRL Perth team will enhance sport in the State and boost its economy.

“I think it’s good, good for WA,” said Mr Goyder.

Andrew Dillon, Chief Executive Officer of the AFL and Richard Goyder, Chairman of the AFL at an event in 2024. No
“There’s enough people in WA now to support it, as long as the NRL does it well, the team is strong and it’s supported, it will be great,” Mr Goyder said.

WA will provide $60 million in direct assistance over seven years to relocate the North Sydney Bears to WA as the Perth Bears, with $35 million set aside to promote grassroots rugby league.

Also included in the deal is $5.6 million match day support and marketing through Tourism WA to encourage east coast League fans to travel west to watch games in Perth.

Mr Goyder, a former chairman of Qantas, said there were a lot of rugby league and union followers who had moved to WA who would support the new franchise, with east coast fans likely to use the occasion of their team playing the Bears in Perth to take a holiday in the State.

“It will be good for airlines and hotels,” he said.

Glad this has finally happened. Of course the AFL loving press have been shitting on it, but that's how AFL types have always been and always will be. f**k them.

Two historical mistakes, the killing of the Reds and the broken promise to the Bears who agreed to relocate to the Central Coast finally corrected. Hopefully the old Bears fans and the Perth community embrace the new-ish team and it is a success.

yeah, but Stokes certainly did judging by the questions his journos asked
Funny thing is there’s a good chance stokes will be bidding for the origin rights and also rugby league World Cup rights

And down the track could be bidding for all the nrl rights too if they keep growing whilst afls aren’t

The afl are cowards, they just background select journos to do their dirty work for them, just as they did with the ASADA investigations.
