I think in a post Olympics world, a city the size of Brisbane will absolutely have to grapple with the idea of a mid sized rectangular venue. Whether it be Perry Park, Ballymore or somewhere else altogether.

There wasn't a demand for a 60k plus oval stadium in Brisbane, but $3.7 billion will be spent. It will rarely get sold out, and will have no where the amount of content like Suncorp. Hypothetically a mid size "$600" million stadium (might be cheaper) could be useful for Reds, Roar, NRLW, Brisbane 3?

You take sporting events from Suncorp in the summer and turn it into a concert venue. That's what Accor does in the summer.

Smart move and they should play a low drawing side like the sharks up there.

Definitely no more than 1 annual token “home” game at sharky parky.

The big concerts will go to Victoria Park after 2032. Suncorp can therefore host any summer rectangular events, and should cope with any extra content. Spend that $600m on Suncorp when it is eventually redeveloped.

Upgrade to Suncorp, plus a mid-sized ENCLOSED rectangular stadium - or conversely building the mid-sized one "open air" and putting a roof on Suncorp when it gets a refurb/extra capacity perhaps?

Haha yeh after Olympics qlnd govt isnt going to be throwing over a billion at stadiums. Maybe in 2050.

It’s it now accepted that Suncorp could be made bigger? I thought people on here were saying it can’t be made bigger due to the location or something.

Lang Park is fine, it's the Gabba that has the upper stands overhanging surrounding roads. If you've not lived in BNE have a look at Stanley St or Vulture St (yes, that Vulture St) on Streetview.

It was built to allow for around 6k extra seats on the top level but then they designed the roof in a way that made those upgrades really expensive (like 500 million or so for those extra seats)

Others have said a capacity of 70k for a new build isn’t possible on the current site footprint but imo that’s just bs speculation
