Do I think it needs one? Its preferrable for the smaller clubs but not needed for the city.
Do I think the Qlnd govt is going to spend $600mill building one anytime soon, and have running costs of two stadiums to cover with less revenue generated? Not a cat in hells chance.

And surely if Brisbane 3 is Ipswich they will need a stadium in Ipswich, not one 35km away?
I think in a post Olympics world, a city the size of Brisbane will absolutely have to grapple with the idea of a mid sized rectangular venue. Whether it be Perry Park, Ballymore or somewhere else altogether.

Why would the Qlnd Govt want to
A) Spend $600mill
B) Double its stadium running costs for no extra income
C) Not be able to recoup some money from selling the Gabba land

What's in it for them?

There wasn't a demand for a 60k plus oval stadium in Brisbane, but $3.7 billion will be spent. It will rarely get sold out, and will have no where the amount of content like Suncorp. Hypothetically a mid size "$600" million stadium (might be cheaper) could be useful for Reds, Roar, NRLW, Brisbane 3?

You take sporting events from Suncorp in the summer and turn it into a concert venue. That's what Accor does in the summer.

Dolphins confirm they will be making NT part of their home for the next 3 years.

From NT tourism Facebook:

Phins Up! Territory sport just got better!
🐬

After their 2024 debut, the Dolphins NRL are making Darwin part of their home turf, bringing more footy, more excitement and more opportunities to the Top End! With a three-year partnership locked in, the Dolphins NRL team will bring elite rugby league to Darwin in 2026, 2027 and 2028.
Fans can look forward to:
🏉
One NRL Premiership match each year
🌴
Events and tourism holiday packages where you can attend the game and experience so much more, perfect for visiting fans!
🙌
Grassroots development with RISE junior programs
🎉
Fan and community activations in the lead-up to each match
Let's welcome the Dolphins and get ready to cheer them on at TIO Stadium in 2026!

Smart move and they should play a low drawing side like the sharks up there.

That would be huge. Imagine that Hawaii Sharks. Plus they play 5 or 6 away games at SFS each year (give them that sort of deal - Sydney away games at SFS) and maybe a token Shark Park game.
Definitely no more than 1 annual token “home” game at sharky parky.

The big concerts will go to Victoria Park after 2032. Suncorp can therefore host any summer rectangular events, and should cope with any extra content. Spend that $600m on Suncorp when it is eventually redeveloped.

Upgrade to Suncorp, plus a mid-sized ENCLOSED rectangular stadium - or conversely building the mid-sized one "open air" and putting a roof on Suncorp when it gets a refurb/extra capacity perhaps?

It’s it now accepted that Suncorp could be made bigger? I thought people on here were saying it can’t be made bigger due to the location or something.

Lang Park is fine, it's the Gabba that has the upper stands overhanging surrounding roads. If you've not lived in BNE have a look at Stanley St or Vulture St (yes, that Vulture St) on Streetview.

It was built to allow for around 6k extra seats on the top level but then they designed the roof in a way that made those upgrades really expensive (like 500 million or so for those extra seats)

Others have said a capacity of 70k for a new build isn’t possible on the current site footprint but imo that’s just bs speculation

“Dr Preach’s analysis conservatively estimates the true loss of green space at 58 per cent, with that conclusion reached via site-specific modelling and the input of town planning, sports architecture and engineering experts.”

On top of that, a recent report in The Courier-Mail indicated the government is considering selling off additional chunks of land inside Victoria Park to residential developers, Ms O’Hagan said.”

“It became a choice between spending billions on temporary facilities and temporary stands that delivered no legacy, or securing the future of AFL and cricket at a new home,” Mr Crisafulli said”
