The club won't have any issues attracting sponsors. The prospect of exposure on the opposite coast would be attractive to a lot of businesses. Plus no company is going to publicly comment to a newspaper before an agreement is in place.
Businesses wanting exposure on the east coast would already be sponsoring other sports though. They'll be pinching off other sports, which may or may not be easy

Except if you consider tv ratings for afl in nsw and qld exposure is not really great but you'd think sponsoring an nrl team into those markets would be a lot more appealing

Does tv audience come into it when sponsoring a club? Somewhat I guess, but could you tell me the sleeve sponsor of many clubs?

Absolutely.
TV audience, social media reach, jersey/merchandise sales, game day venue presence etc..

Tv audience would come into it for the major sponsor but it doesn't do much for the other sponsors. Buying advertising with ch9 or kayo would be where you put your resources of your looking at tv audienc.

Is Emu Bitter still around ?

Maybe they will be the inaugral main sponsor of the Bears … although I would have to say that my one can of it I have drunk, would have to be the worst Australian beer I have ever tasted …

Yes …

It reminds me of the type of prejudice and exclusion that RL has always had to overcome from elites and the top end of town throughout its 130 year history ….
Its interesting, I dont belive there was this animosity when Western Reds entered? Sounds like our new CEO has rattled plenty of cages on the Terrace.
Funny how the companies they went and asked are all ones who are heavily involved in supporting rival codes already.
Come on down Cash Convertors!

could be that some of these mobs are worried that the Bears could get a bigger slice of the action when they get up and running

They may also be looking at the club as an east coast club owned and run by an east coast organisation.

Parochialism is going to be hard to change given the clubs birth and its owners. hopefully filling hbf park for games will make businesses want to get onboard. There’s also some pretty wealthy local rl business owners that I’m sure will be keen. Trick will be in attracting some big national sponsors like dolphins did with kings, and Storm have done so successfully.

I guess they wanted to ask the big Perth companies ? It was a positive that was mentioned by Perth supporters during the bid process …Perth is home to some big corporations…no one seemed to have realised that they are all insular and won’t support a potential threat to their own game …

As far as the new CEO goes …no one worth their salt doesn’t make it that far without rattling some cages and creating some enemies ….? PVL has plenty of people that hate him in Sydney, and they aren’t just from other codes…

You talking about being run by the NRL? Isn’t that only temporary, and then the plan is to hand it over to Perth locals ?
Yeah the NRL. I'm just spitballing what issues there possibly could be.
There may be a bit of truth in the article, hopefully not

It's a nothing article. What kind of business is going to publicly speculate on sponsoring a club that's years away from playing and doesn't have a logo let alone a full board yet.

Fumbleball fans or not, money talks. Perth will be new and shiny, and will immediately be one of the three biggest teams in the state. Perthican businesses will jump on when the time nears.

If anything, the article provides an example of why the NRL feel the need to leverage the pre-existing supporter base of the Bears for the new franchise. There's no mention of any businesses being disinterested due to the origins of the club, it's their perception of the code as a whole.

That, and it's about De Ceglie having made some enemies along the way.

At the launch Vlad said he had already fielded a dozen expressions of interest from sponsors.

TBF the comments in there are from companies that are heavily invested in other codes - Woodside and Dockers (15 years main sponsor) Fortesque and Union (Twiggy basically bankrolls the game here) Wesfarmers and Eagles. The rest said no comment. Which you would expect any one to say at this point in time. Interesting the paper decided to spin it as 'indifference' when in fact it was no comment from the majority of people they asked.
Nice of Westside to wish us every success though lol
