And the chooks, which is the team we beat in the last gf we won, have won 3 gf since then. Meanwhile we haven’t even looked like getting back to a gf.
Aah ha you are WRONG, we were 85 minutes away from a GF, also if kicks from try's didnt count we would have made a couple of more and also if the field was 98m instead of 100m we are looking at even more GF, we could have challenged our 11 in a row...

I know I'm out of step here but I just believe we should have trust in the coach. Never mind the Murdoch press commentary from Creepy Crawley and the like. He just needs some help in recruitment the of 1 or 2 hard-nosed forwards aka Felise Kaufusi style to compliment our up and coming forwards.
Yeah I hear ya.. hes still the man for the job even though hes pi$$ing me off a bit lately with some of his selections...

I'm hoping at some point in coming weeks, we will start to hear more from the CEO after hes got a chance to make some moves.. lets hope we get a recruitment manager as a priority.. thats the piece I think has set us back 1-2yrs.. we have missed a bunch of targets I feel we could have secured with a classy negotiator in our corner.. let Flanno coach, and let an expert spend his 24/7 fixing this roster... and its gonna take some serious time to fix it.

All the more reason Old Timer that I was so disappointed we didn't seem to have a real crack at Fogharty...he would have been ideal for a couple of seasons while we progressed say Reed through the ranks...I just can't understand how this club operates...
For me, DCE was the one we could have gone for. He could have helped to bring Akinson or LPT through on a two-year deal.

All blame can be put on our BOD. They have failed to put the right people in place to facilitate good results. Through a budget process, they need to delegate the sign-off of player recruitment to the CEO or GM of Football.

We could very quickly move the club to a more positive position by:
1. Sacking Haran, Millard, Millward, and Flannagan from the Football Department and replacing them with more professional staff.
3. Ridding players from our top 30 roster who are not up to first-grade standard.
4. Recruiting two alfa international props from rugby union.
5. Recruiting an experienced marquee halfback.

2026
1. Ramsey if fit
2. Lawson or Nick T
3. Gutherson
4. Homes
5. CT or einau
6. Atkinson or LKT
7. a marquee halfback
8. New prop

9. Cook
10. New prop
11. Eagan
12. Su'A
13. De Belin

14. Liddle
15. Tonga
16. Stewart
17. T Coucman or R Couchman or Jett Liu

Clean out the deadwood in our roster, and we will have plenty of cap space to cover the recruitment of the above 3 new players.

My belief is:
1. We need to ensure we have 17 or 18 players of first-grade standard.
2. Then, backfill with 12 or 13 budding juniors.

Using this system we should ensure a reasonable squad that is balanced between experienced and junior players. It should also facilitate a more balanced roster for salary cap purposes.

Flanno has lost my support mainly because I feel he has not gone after a proven halfback after letting Hunt go, purely to ensure his son gets selected in first-grade.

As far as props go, why did not he recrit a couple of union internationals?

"Alfa" props?! I'm sure its a typo and you meant "alpha" but when I read it this is all I could imagine -

The situation was untenable with Hunt Possm, you know that. So Flanno went and contracted Ilias, who on paper at least was/is a proven first grade halfback. And he's got Atkinson contracted for next year. So I think it's unfair to suggest he never went after a halfback just to ensure his son gets selected. I don't agree with that at all.

As for Rugby Union props, that won't work. They're built like brick outhouses but they have no tackling technique and they have no speed. They're selected on their ability to hold up a scrum and to push in a ruck. Recruiting a couple of union props is akin to recruiting a couple more Blake Lawries, except they'd be slower and less agile. I don't agree with that at all either.

From past posts, I understand possm has vision issues and sometimes uses a voice app to post. Not that it matters, but possm may wish to clarify.
Yes to read posts, I click the right mouse button and select 'read aloud from the menu items'. To post I use my software app to text in Word and then copy paste into the forum app. It is not a perfect system, and some strange results do happen but it is better than not being active on this forum.

When reading aloud, the post being replied to is read aloud each time. So it does slow down the process.

My computer is set up to use a black background with white text. Before I lost useful sight, this was too bright for me, so I toned it down by selecting blue text. However, sometimes I get lazy/tired and ask my 18 year old son to enter my post via dictation. He let me know that the blue text is difficult to see when people use a white background. So I changed back to white text.

Ok, thanks.
Regarding Ilias and Atkinson, both of these players are not regular first-grade halves. We need remarkable players to play in the halves.

I take your point regarding the props, but we have seen som RU props come into the NRL successfully over the years.

Great effort. Thanks.
Hey ... at least you don't actually have to watch some of our team's poor performances.

I wasn't aware you had sight issues. So if it came across as me making fun of that my apologies it certainly wasn't my intent either implicitly or explicitly. :(

I honestly can't remember a Union prop successfully transitioning to League. The last one I can think of who tried was Tony D'Arcy. He was good enough to play for the Wallabies but could only make reserve grade for Penrith in league. Thinking about it though, it might be worth targeting the centres and second rowers from Union. Sam Burgess was a very good league prop, but mostly played centre when he move to Union. Brad Thorn played second Row for the All Blacks. Target some of those positions and you might be on to something.

Wouldn’t care if we had Haas and Tino - Kyle is still slow, poor kicking game and just overall a reserve grader skill set etc. that wouldn’t magically change, it’d just be masked

And you're still one of the most prolific posters we have here. Well done possm, it certainly puts things in perspective.

Our player roster is coming from a very low base. Flanno is developing our juniors and introducing them to the top grade. I think we need to back his judgement. I do find it frustrating that we can't recruit topliners like the other clubs. That should be one of the first items of business for our new CEO to solve. I'm over us rummaging through the reject bin of the other also-ran clubs.
