All the more reason Old Timer that I was so disappointed we didn't seem to have a real crack at Fogharty...he would have been ideal for a couple of seasons while we progressed say Reed through the ranks...I just can't understand how this club operates...
For me, DCE was the one we could have gone for. He could have helped to bring Akinson or LPT through on a two-year deal.
And the chooks, which is the team we beat in the last gf we won, have won 3 gf since then. Meanwhile we haven’t even looked like getting back to a gf.
All blame can be put on our BOD. They have failed to put the right people in place to facilitate good results. Through a budget process, they need to delegate the sign-off of player recruitment to the CEO or GM of Football.
We could very quickly move the club to a more positive position by:
1. Sacking Haran, Millard, Millward, and Flannagan from the Football Department and replacing them with more professional staff.
3. Ridding players from our top 30 roster who are not up to first-grade standard.
4. Recruiting two alfa international props from rugby union.
5. Recruiting an experienced marquee halfback.
2026
1. Ramsey if fit
2. Lawson or Nick T
3. Gutherson
4. Homes
5. CT or einau
6. Atkinson or LKT
7. a marquee halfback
8. New prop
9. Cook
10. New prop
11. Eagan
12. Su'A
13. De Belin
14. Liddle
15. Tonga
16. Stewart
17. T Coucman or R Couchman or Jett Liu
Clean out the deadwood in our roster, and we will have plenty of cap space to cover the recruitment of the above 3 new players.
My belief is:
1. We need to ensure we have 17 or 18 players of first-grade standard.
2. Then, backfill with 12 or 13 budding juniors.
Using this system we should ensure a reasonable squad that is balanced between experienced and junior players. It should also facilitate a more balanced roster for salary cap purposes.
